Yoga for the Inflexible Male: A How-To Guide Review: Outstanding Introduction to Yoga - An excellent and very gentle approach to practicing yoga. Great humor and wonderful illustrations. A great supplement to actual class instructions. Review: Great beginner yoga book for men and women! - I bought this for my husband but also for reference and ideas to vary up the weekly yoga classes I teach. Even my experienced students really appreciate these sequences, as it gives them new ways to explore asanas, while less experienced students or those who have physical limitations will be challenged but not discouraged. And the touch of humor goes a long way. For my part as an instructor, I always like finding new ways to make yoga accessible and dynamic to my students. I highly recommend this book!

Confusing Descriptions Abound
I was excited to get a book that makes yoga poses easy to learn, however, I immediately found the descriptions confusing. "Keep your knees together like a hinge" What? "Lift the skin of your knees" What?? "Lift your trunk- the sides not the ribs" WHAT??? These short and confusing instructions are found throughout the book with no time spent explaining or illustrating the details required to understand what they mean. The images are good as far as giving you a general idea of what position you are trying for, but the written descriptions are a complete miss in my opinion. Also, the author offers a suggestion if you have bad knees, however, after telling you to do the entire series cross legged on a bolster it never shows or explains how that would even work. And after looking at the images for the regular pose, it makes no sense how it would be achieved sitting differently etc.

Best Yoga Book Ever
I absolutely love this book. I originally saw it when I worked in a bookstore, but never picked it up. Recently, I've been getting into yoga, and decided now was the perfect time to buy it. I'm so glad I did, because not only does it give some insight on how you can build up your poses, but the doses of humor just adds to the enjoyment I get from this book. Please don't hesitate and get this book today!

Not your usual yoga book
I ordered this book for my brother, but I like it so much, I'm keeping it for myself and getting another copy for my brother. And one each for four inflexible colleagues at work. And one for my brother-in-law. It's like no other yoga book I've seen before. It's funny! It shows how to use props to make even difficult poses accessible to the beginner. There are "good, not-so-bad, and ugly" variations for most poses. This book makes yoga fun and possible for those of us who never thought we'd be able to do yoga on our own. What a treat!

Tore my Rotator Cuff before it arrived.
Purchased this and tore my rotator cuff the day before it arrived. Cannot use this until I am complete Physical Therapy. I suppose its good. I cannot do nearly any of the positions due to the extent of my injury. But its seems practical, fun and do-able.

OK but sometimes hard to follow
I am the inflexible male this book targets and I want to become more flexible. The book is a decent getting-started tutorial. It told me what yoga accessories I needed, introduced me to the vocabulary, and showed (for most, but not all, of the exercises) three variations depending on how flexible or inflexible you are. This was important to me, as getting started I usually could only achieve the ugly variations, sometimes the not-so-bad variations, and just occasionally getting close to the good pose! What I didn't like is that the descriptions were often hard to follow, with no illustrations along the way. The descriptions are too lengthy and convoluted to read and memorize before attempting the pose. So here I am lying on my back, one leg in the air, one arm off in some weird direction, improperly holding the book up in the air in the other hand, rereading the section trying to figure out if I've done it right so far and what happens next. Often there are intermediate poses described. Those are not illustrated, and it's sometimes hard to tell if I'm anywhere close to what's being described. I was hoping this would be everything I needed to get started on my journey to more flexibility, but I think my next stop will be youtube to find a channel that can show me how to do these exercises.

Bought the book for my husband and he has found it very interesting and useful. It has helped him a little with his flexibility as he has always complained of his stiffness. He has kept reading and practicing the different positions. Would recommend.
