Best series for both gifted and not-so-gifted math students
Saxon is the best way for kiddos to learn math IMO. Each lesson contains reviews of previous work. Each problem has the lesson number in parentheses so the student can review the appropriate lesson if having an issue with the concept. Each lesson also has a brief intensive section that only has problems associated with the current lesson. I have used this series for both my gifted math student as well as my struggling math student for 3 years. Prior to that, my brother used the system as well. Each lesson can be labor intensive with about 30 problems to work that are comprehensive in addition to lesson specific problems. However, the test book provides an overview of important concepts and those the student may not understand fully. My students read 5 lessons per week, do the test, & review concepts (and the specific lesson problems associated with it) for each problem missed on the test. This helps streamline the process and keeps them from burning out with endless math problems.

Best math curriculum
We had been using another excellent math curriculum but found that this one is a bit better as you get into high school. For this reason, I am going to cut over to Saxon at the 7th grade with this book going forward. Results with Saxon for my older children are excellent. The curriculum is rigorous and prepares the student for SATs and university. We use the Art Reed AND the Saxon Dive CDs to help illuminate and give further examples. With Saxon, your student will be well taught. Having said that, if no one in your home is comfortable with math, it would be helpful if you had just one person that you could run a problem or two by if the solutions key doesn't suffice. Otherwise, there is also the Saxon Teacher CDs which are lengthier and may give further instruction. The Art Reed and Dive are usually 8-12 minutes a piece and are sufficient for most student. I love this curriculum and have total confidence that it will prepare my students for any major requiring math, or give them a high school exposure that has the depth and breadth to be the last math that they will have if they pursue something in the Humanities.

Quality Higher Math Books
I purchased these books for my 14 year old son. He wants to do an Engineering Degree in a few years. So far so good. He has changed over from MUS and really likes the new format and content of the Saxon Math. I decided to change him over to Saxon because a friend approached Melbourne University, showed them Saxon Math, and was advised that it would be very good preparation for an Engineering Degree. I believe the spaced repetition structure of the books will really help my son to retain the information he has already learnt. Also he likes the variety of questions and enjoys being challenged to really think in each lesson. From a teacher's perspective, I find the new concept explanation easy to understand and feel confident this product will fully meet our Math needs. I thoroughly recommend this product.

A Must Have for Home Schooling!
We just started home schooling our 11 y/o and having seen what she's been doing in public school, we use the textbook for a guide line, the worksheets for practice occasionally and I am filling in the gaps left by public school. If you and your child are math-minded you could probably ger away with just getting the text book for a guide line but if math is not your thing then you can literally just follow the book. A little dry thay way but that's what I am going to have to do with History. Lol. Saxon is good, definitely recommend 👍

Saxon is a great program.
I have been using Saxon Math books with my four kids. I like that each lesson introduces a new topic and includes problems from old lessons. If your child learns through repetition then you should consider this series. I have, however, found that Saxon Math doesn't work as well for some kids. My son is advanced in math and he hates doing problems that cover skills he has already learned. I still use Saxon for him, but I only require him to do the practice problems (the ones that test the new skill), whereas my daughters do all of the problems.

Every new concept is very well explained with examples at the beginning of each chapter.one lesson per concept. around 10 practice questions per lesson related to the covered concept in that chapter and around 30 questions per lesson for mixed practice which has questions from the current lesson plus questions from all the previous lessons. Total 120 lessons.Buy the whole kit ( 3 booklets - main book, solutions and workbook ).
