Eerie Ambience
Because I enjoyed "Fear of a Blank Planet" so much I decided to go back and pick up a few older PT albums. "Signify" is probably my favorite of those. The overall sound reminds me of the old group Camel, but PT is 'spikey-er' and has more teeth. It took me two or three times listening, but it's fairly accessible. Some of the songs have catchy and memorable melodies (like 'Waiting') which makes the album easier to 'get into' than many other Progressive Rock albums. As always, Steven Wilson really shines; his guitar work and the general feel of 'eerie ambience' makes this album unique, as his other PT productions. If you like Progressive Rock, or you have heard PT before, you should get this one. I'm fairly confident it won't disappoint you.

I hate to sound like a broken record when I review ...
I hate to sound like a broken record when I review PT/Steven Wilson...I'll keep this one really brief. Signify is actually one of my favorite PT albums and yet one of the final purchases of their catalog. I really like this one and wish I would have bought it much, much sooner! If you like these guys, don't hesitate to grab this album!!

Musicianship that puts the rest of the 90's to shame
This was my experiment to find a new progressive rock band and was very pleased with this Porcupine Tree release. It is not progressive in the same way as Yes, Genesis or Rush, but have enough elements to make this some great music. It strikes a good mix of guitars and keyboards and creative lyrics. Some instrumentals are a bit too thin and atmospheric, but "Signify" and "Idiot Prayer" are powerful and driving... and can lead to driving a little too fast on the highway. "Waiting", "Every Home is Wired" & especially "Dark Matter" are fantastic songs. Of the bands I have been testing for new listening, Porcupine Tree is on the top of the list. If you enjoy this album, also check out their later album "Lightbulb Sun".

This one is one of the most solid of their recordings...
Another excellent work from Porcupine Tree. I love how Steven Wilson puts an album together. Beautiful vocals throughout. 'The Sleep of No Dreaming' is one of my favorites by PT. This is one of the most solid of their recordings (I've yet to find any of their albums to be lacking). All the members are marvelous at their respective instruments, but wow Colin Edwin is one stunning bass player. As I've noted in some of my other reviews it's hard to pick a favorite PT album, they have all captivated me completely. This one is no different, right up there. I would grade this CD a definite A+.

so for me this "fit" nicely, behind the other albums in the collection
I found Signify to be an extraordinarily pleasant surprise. I prefer the harder, edgier, more metal version of Porcupine Tree's works, so for me this "fit" nicely, behind the other albums in the collection, "In Absentia", and "The Incident". The Genius of Steve Wilson's composition and the musicianship of the band resulted in another home run.

One of the top progressive albums of the '90's
This is as uncompromising as Porcupine Tree gets. Before they went more metallic in the millenium decade starting with 'In absentia', Steve Wilson and co,were alternating ,darkly ambient sound scape music along with downbeat, catchy melodic songs on this effort. Signify is dark, and sometimes unsettling in nature. How can tracks such as 'Waiting','Sleep of No dreaming', 'Sever', and 'Dark Matter' be uplifting? Still and all, they are melodic songs displaying Wilson's gift for songwriting. The darkly ambient material such as 'Intermediate Jesus', 'Light Mass Prayers' are the highlights for me. These are some of the more dark, disturbing instrumentals these ears ever heard. They just leave you with a very uneasy, unsettled feeling. If Steve Wilson chose to, he could conjure an incredible soundtrack to a movie.'Signify' is an uptempo, energetic , instrumental rocker, while 'Idiot prayer' actually has a danceable quality. This album was definitely progressive music, redefining what the genre should have been, instead of most it being a redundant rehash on the Yes/Genesis sound. If only more people had listened at the time, this album could have been bigger instead of remaining an overlooked gem.The extra disc of demos from that period are quite interesting and only add to the high quality inherent on the regularly released album.

Another Great PT Album
I had never heard of this band until a few months ago when I accidentally came across one of their songs on my AOL radio. If you like music that varies greatly, seems like you're on a journey and downright rocks from time to time. This will be a great addition to your collection

Their first classic album
Porcupine Tree's fourth Studio album, and one of their best.Every track is fantastic, there's no filler on here. And at over 20 tracks on the two disc remastered version which includes demos and rarities as well as the original 12 track album, this is definitely value for money.A superb, outstanding five star purchase, if you have any interest in modern progressive rock music this is the band for you and this is almost the pinnacle of their early career. Please check out Steve Wilson's four solo albums and the other nine Porcupine Tree albums as well though, they're all superb!

I like it a lot
Great album if you're into 70's progressive genre. Some impressive guitar, reminiscent of Steve Hackett.
