Shogi is widely considered to be the best of the regional chess variants. But it's always been fairly intimidating for the US audience, because too many of us can't be bothered to learn the differences between the various symbols of the pieces.This does away with the symbols, replacing them with cute animals, and it provides a much lower barrier to entry for people who are interested in learning to play Shogi.The ONLY flaw with this set is that there are no English rules included - you need to visit Wikipedia or BoardGameGeek to get the rules to Shogi so you can get all of the detail necessary to play.

Although my sons and I already know to play Shogi [and myriad variants]; this will be used to teach others to play, and we'll also play it just for fun.
