Lettuce Guru
Charles Dowding is a genius in the garden especially when it comes to growing lettuce. This book is so packed with information that I returned the library's copy and purchased a copy for myself.

Lots of lovely leaves!
Book aimed at UK audience but I had no problem applying the information to my temperate climate in the U.S. What I like the most was the detailed information about what the plants looked like, tasted like, when they grew best, how to grow for leaf or entire plant harvest. I want to incorporate more salad greens into my diet and this book, I believe, will make it possible!

Salad Excellence
Directions for growing and recipes are easy to follow. Divided into growing times with recipes in each section. I will bring to market to help patrons get ideas for eating. I will also use to try new lettuce types. Not just lettuce which is really nice.

Fantastic book which gives you the key to growing vegetables easily and successfully all around!
Charles Dowding has completely revolutionised my approach to green vegetables. He gives clear instructions about how to do no did gardens so easily. This book is fantastic because it contains a Plants in calendar to show went to sew seeds and went to harvest throughout the year so that you can end up with a constant supply of vegetables β even through winter. This book is fantastic because it contains a Plants in calendar to show went to sew seeds and went to harvest throughout the year so that you can end up with a constant supply of vegetables β even through winter.Other tips include how and when to sow seeds in doors so that they get a head start and can be planted outside with less risk of slug damage.I thoroughly recommend this book to others. Charles also has published quite a lot of videos on his YouTube channel which compliment information in this book well.

Totally inspirational
A completely invaluable book for anyone who likes to grow food. The thing about salad is that even the tiniest spot can be made to produce something (look at Dowding's discussion of microleaves for windowsills...) But the big advantage of this book is the brilliant month by month sections containing detailed suggestions and growing instructions for salads that will flourish at different times of year. Forget sowing the same thing over and over again, says Dowding. Instead, choose seasonal plants - mustards and rockets in winter, soft watery leaves in summer - which will flourish, needing less care and getting less pests, because they are growing at just the right time for them. This book made me get out the seed catalogues and start ordering more unusual varieties - this winter I've grown red mustard and lambs lettuce which are both really sharp and tasty, and which I probably wouldn't have been brave enough to try without Dowding's ever-encouraging book. Really, at the price of three supermarket mixed bags of leaves, it's a book that we should ALL have a copy of!

Books like this are worth their weight in gold
Unlike other veg books like Monty Don's this book contains everything you need to know, best varieties, slug problems etc. Its broken down into what and when to plant followed by chapters of inside and outside growing. I dont need to be confused or endlessly making notes while flicking back and fo its all there. I am thinking of taking all other growing books off the shelf as books like this exist because Charles has kept diaries and notes of what works and what doesnt and what he has printed is factual. The beautiful pics of the salad leaves are beautiful. Best investment.

Great for all year round growing
I've always struggled with a tiny garden and big ideas but after stumbling across Charles on YouTube I was shown a whole new way of harvesting a huge amount from just a few sowings. This book is a great guide to year round planting plans and in the UK!! Recommended for even seasoned gardeners.

fantastic, easy salads
This book makes salad growing so easy, if you have the smallest of spaces - or even a window sill - you may never need to buy salad again. And of course it all tastes so much better than bought salad. The book teaches you easy ways to start off and grow on lots of different sorts of salad leaves, many of which you will never have tried before. Highly recommend this book.
