Kimberly Chrisman-CampbellWorn on This Day: The Clothes That Made History

A Nuanced Approach to Clothing in Context
A fascinating 'non-linear' look at how clothing permeates our lives, from the frivolous to the deeply resonant. I was pleasantly surprised how much the book was text based, the history of costume is nuanced and requires far more context than it generally receives, and the images are a beautiful compliment rather than the main purpose. The project alone is remarkably ambitious and the execution is flawless.I'll be giving this to my mom for Xmas but I wanted a chance to look through it and I enjoyed it so much I've decided to get myself a copy as well.

Informative and beautiful!
This is a very interesting and novel concept. The author brings together dramatically different garments along with their equally fascinating stories. The illustrations are excellent. Highly recommend.

I loved Books on history
This book was not what I expected. I thought there would of been more about Jackie Kennedy pink suit that she wore the day J.F.K. was assassinated. But I still found this book very interesting. I'm keeping it next to the couch so every day I'll see something interesting that happened on that day in history. But I do love the cover of this book.

Not really a history
Well researched and includes a lot of great images but it's not a history. It's format of listing historical events about clothing fashion by the days of the year I found dissatisfying.

Fascinating and Fun to Read
I loved everything about this book: the photography is great, and the short stories related to each item were interesting!

Could have been great
This had great promise - and the information inside IS fascinating! BUT there are almost no pictures, and the pictures that are there are badly presented (in the crease) or are items that one can easily google. What I can't google is the belt from the Holocaust survivor or the shoes from 9/11 that the author references. That is what I had hoped to see.The size is also a problem. It is too small, especially considering the fact that it is presented as a coffee-table book. The book should be larger AND have more (if not entirely) images.I enjoyed the monthly 'calendar' look through history - that was fun, but again nothing was in order and the lack of photos made it feel like a puzzle that you can't solve. Also, the author seems to come from a high-fashion background. Which is fine -BUT if your book is about a history of clothing, then it should be about ALL types of clothes. The images and main examples were all from high fashion sources (even if some were historical costume).Example: how do you mention the J.Lo dress that inspired google images and THEN NOT INCLUDE A PHOTO!?OROne 19th century dress (image) was included because it was a famous designer whose wife wore it to the first 'Modern Dance' show in France. what does that have to do with anything? Why not show the costume that was worn by the modern dancers?Frustrating
