Great overview of basics simply explained
I wanted to get a good grounding in this subject and the author did a great job with this book! It's also a handy reference I can refer back to. Totally recommend it for anyone making a first approach to graphic design.

Brilliant and handy book!
If you’re a designer, you still tend to forget certain specs or theory. This books helps you as a form of reference and reminder. A must-have for budding designers out there.

Fantastic for Beginners, and a good refresher, and reference
This Book worked really well for me as a beginner to Graphic Design. It was super easy to digest, had a nice balance of descriptive text, illustrations, and tables. It also works really well as a reference, so I will personally be referring back to it often. The only reason I give it 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because I do recognize that this book is super basic. I am new to Graphic design, but not Art in general, So a lot of this felt like a refresher. So I would not recommend this book if you are beyond a beginner level. With that being said, if you are brand new to Graphic Design, this is a fantastic place to start!

I'm surprised there are so many 5-star reviews
The book did not seem very helpful to me. The information was extremely basic and there was a lot of "filler." E.g., in the color section the author spends a lot of time on the different color models (RGB vs. HSL vs HSB), but you can get all this from a quick Google search. Then pages 41 to 48 we find a list of colors and adjectives that can be associated with those colors. Pages 48 to 53 contains a listing of X11 color codes (in hex) ordered by hue. Pages 54 to 56 are essentially blank. Pages 57 to 62 cover shapes (i.e., here is a list of geometric shapes (like a circle, a square, etc.) along with some adjectives that the authors believes are associated with certain shapes). Pages 62-64 are also essentially blank. So I found pages 41-64 to contain very little value, and the entire book is only 150 pages! I didn't bother going through the rest of the book, but I suspect it's probably more of the same.Maybe someone could use this as reference material, but it seems to me you could save your $30 and just do some internet searching instead. I don't think you'd miss much.
