Injury-free running
I have tried all kinds of running methods throughout the years. Coach to 5K, all kinds of apps, etc. The issue I had with all these methods was I got injured quickly. I had knee and shin issues that made me stop for months to recover. I was devastated every time I got injured because I love running! I went searching for something different so I could run and I found this book. It has been a Godsend. I am halfway through the beginner 12-week program and I am injury-free! I have stuck to the program mapped out in the book and I am seeing excellent results beyond being injury-free. My 1-mile time has dropped (I'm running faster). My VO2Max has increased by 4 points. I am walking/running 30 miles a week. I actually get excited about my run and walk days now. I have even signed myself up for a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving because I know I will be ready for it.If you need a program that helps keep you injury-free, you need to get this book!

Running Success with this book!
If you are even thinking about starting a running program get this book. You want to run be injury free and have fun?Then this is the book for you. My personal mistakes with running include starting out going too far, too fast and stretching too much (yes, stretching too much). Learn how to avoid my issues by reading and applying the lessons in this book.In a couple months you'll be confident and injury free and looking at 5Ks, 10Ks, 1/2 marathons and full marathons.Follow this book up with Jeff Galloway's books on Running and Marathon You Can Do It.Trust me, running is a great sport, basic gear, no gym membership and your training area is right out the front door.The trick is to read the book and not think you know more than he does.Be teachable and Jeff through this book will become your coach.*** Update: I've moved my rating of this down to 4* because the table of contents is totally wrong, the page numbers referred to have nothing to do with where the content is, also, the 'how to dress for weather chart' is in C and F and is not clear (because it bounces back and forth). So much of the book is well done, nice big flaps to use to mark your place, great photos, well constructed.Overall, I highly recommend this, but it's too bad the format / table of contents is so wrong. My guess is the "Myer and Myer Sport" people didn't spring for an editor.

If you are looking for a nice, quick book on how to get started running, this is a great choice.He provides you with a simple plan to get started with and two choices on what to do after you conquer that plan.This book is also chock full of great tips and insights from a long time runner and coach.

Very Informative
Lots of good advice. There is a lot of repetition going from book to book and yet with each new book of his I glean a nugget or two of useful information. Makes me want to read them all.

Great for beginners or review for veterans
This book is full of great advice on how to get started running, injury free. Even though I've been running casually for a couple years, Jeff Galloway's book was very helpful motivating me to push further without risking hurting myself. Perfect for the beginner of ANY age or any level.

great book to begin a running program!
I had had the previous edition of Getting Started. When I gave up running (for good, I thought)..I gave away several of my running books. So, now that I've resumed run/walk/run..I bought this new edition and I like this one better than the first one. His training of slow gentle walk/run/walk runs suits me, and I am making progress. I recommend this book.

Very good entry level book for people new to running
Very good entry level book for people new to running. Only 4/5 due to lots of knowledge beyond what is needed, and at times got quite repetitive.

Good book for begginers
Very good for begginers! If you are starting a program or just want to know how to begin, this book will help you. Good advices on training and motivation. I really recomend this one.Bom livro, especialmente para quem está começando e acha que nunca vai conseguir correr. Bom para pessoas acima do peso ou qualquer outra condição que dificulte a corrida.
