Almost perfect
This is a very sleek speaker dock. I haven't used it with batteries yet so I cannot comment on it's portability. I use it in my house and hook an auxiliary cord to my iphone to play my music. If I turn my phone speak up all the way, I can turn the portable dock about half way and the music is crystal clear and just sounds amazing. I have no complaints there.I could be wrong - but this unit came with about 4-5 detachable bases to dock different things. I know it docked my sirus radio I bought for satilite home use but I could not find a dock attachment for an iphone 4s or 5. Maybe you have to buy that seperately or I just missed it in the box but I wanted to pass that along. But like I said, I use an aux cord and works just fine.Another con would be the fancy on/off and volume control. It's built into the system and there are no actual buttons. So it can be a little difficult, in my opinion, to push it just right to get that on/off to light up. Then the volume is this circle design. I guess you use your finger and slide it around the circle to make it louder or quieter. Would be much simplier if there was just a darn button to turn - but I had bought this for my mom in a nursing home and she just couldn't figure out how to run this and change the volume so I took it back to my house. With some finger moving around - volume works fine just worth mentioning....Another thing I wanted to point out - we bought this to play satilite radio in the house. I live in a rural area, which I'm not sure if that was part of the problem but I could not get a signal unless the radio antenna was in a south window. The instructions say it does work best in a southern position - so consider this and where you want your indoor satilite before purchasing it. I didn't want to only listen to the radio in my bedroom so I only use the dock now for the auxiliary cord....Overall is it a nice dock, puts out great quality music. Says it's portable with many large batteries. It's a little high for my taste but

AWESOME!!!
I was worried about how this thing would sound and perform. My first experience with a portable sat unit (a Sky-Fi, My-Fi)was lackluster for sure. I mean its a portable satellite radio unit so my expectations were forgiving. Man o man, this thing is great! Sound quality, specifically bass response is mind blowing. I would go so far as to say it would rival the sound docks from Bose. Getting a strong sat signal can be tricky at times. It takes a little bit of practice and knowing your cardinal directions (XM recommends aiming the antenna south) but surprisingly for the most part you can just point it at the sky and rock on. I have on occasion been able to set it on the kitchen counter and aim the antenna southward and it work just fine inside the house! Now for the downside. And there is only one. Battery life does seem a bit short. But in its defense it does have to power the unit in addition to the internal amp for the speakers, and I was not using a high quality set of batteries. But even so I would not expect it to last a super long time. It does sort of stink that it needs (8) D cell batteries, but with a good set or rechargeable batteries I expect it should last a while loner. Hey you got to pay to play right? I plan to try it soon with the good rechargeable batteries I have and update this review.Side note: I did have one issue while using the unit. It was an isolated incident but the volume would cut out and the lights around the volume knob would flash randomly. It only happened once and I use this thing 3+ days a week, also since I cannot replicate the problem I would not say it is an issue, just wanted to point it out.

Nice sounding system
I bought this docking station and a portable XM radio for my elderly father-in-law who recently had to move into an assisted living facility. His entertainment was pretty much limited to what is available on a cable system going into his room. This portable speaker dock looks nice and is surprising how good the sound is that comes from the left and right speakers. The volume control on the top is pretty cool because it is a finger-touch sensitive rotary dial that easily spins (like turning a dial on a clock) to raise or lower the volume, and LED indicators provide a visual indication at how high or low the volume is.A remote control comes with this unit so that radio stations can be changed easily across the room. One shortcoming of the remote however, it lacks the ability to lower or raise the volume. This docking station also charges the small portable radio that can undock, and be used in another location such as your car or with the use of headphones or ear buds in a pocket. My father-in-law doesn't hear very well, but the sound quality is good enough to allow him to fully enjoy the stations I pre-programmed in his radio, mainly the "40s" station and a bluegrass station and several gospel stations. I would suspect that this docking station might not provide the loudness or deep bass that teens might like, but for me (I'm 62) and my father-in-law who is 86, it works great.

Nice Sound, But....
If you have a factory-installed SiriusXM in your car, like I have in my Mercedes, don't expect this dock to perform as well. My favorite spot outside is on the south side of my house, under a tree, and I receive only 2 out of 3 bars in reception strength, cutting off occasionally. So, location is a factor for good reception and sound. When it's pulling in good reception, this item delivers great sound. Four speakers in the dock. I've used it on DC so far. I'm not a fan on spending money on batteries. Nice design and fairly lightweight. I bought a Lynx radio to use with this dock. It works OK together, but I'm still educating myself on all the features. But that's another review. Anyway, purchase this dock for your Sirius radio if you want to listen to very good (I reserve "great" for my Bose system) music enjoyment. There are no awkward buttons and such. It's all touch controlled. Give it a try.
