Righting Canada's Wrongs: Japanese Canadian Internment in the Second World War

More like a picture book than a long read, concepts sink in
We have a bunch of books and a couple videos, my family having gone through the experience, and I can't say enough about this book because it's more graphics-based than dry reading. Yes, I don't enjoy reading anyway, but two pages of writing don't sink in like one photo with a caption. This is an ideal book for people who have heard abbreviated tales of what conditions were like, and the feelings of the people --- the trouble is, those people never wanted to talk about the shame of it all, and now that they do talk, their thoughts and speaking ability are a lot less fluid and coherent than it would have been 20-30 years ago. Many books are related to one family's experiences and that can be hard to relate to, so this treatment is really welcomed. Show the pics to your elders, let them tell your family's viewpoint of same.

Japanese Canadian Internment in the Second World War
Had I received this book a couple of years ago I would have been very surprised. I had then absolutely no knowledge of what happened to Japanese Canadians during World War II.Since then, the controversy regarding honorary degrees at UBC has taught me a lot. This is why I read the book from cover to cover and was pleased to see that the subject was very well treated. It is fair to Canada and after reading it you feel that what happened was wrong but that Japanese Canadians were stronger and overcame the situation. They did not act like victims. They just claimed what was their due and it was finally given to them first by Canada and then more locally and recently by UBC.Japanese Canadians have made significant contributions to the Canadian society. This book should be in all BC libraries and in all BC schools. It shows that you can overcome a great injustice and still be a proud Canadian afterwards.I definitely like the book (and its strong binding) and I even ordered four copies to give to friends.
