Great information, great recipes
Ferment: A Guide to the Ancient Art of Fermentation is a deeply inspiring and accessible book for anyone looking to reconnect with traditional food practices. It blends history, technique, and a reverence for the natural world in a way that feels both educational and soulful. The author’s passion for fermentation is contagious, and the step-by-step guidance makes even intimidating processes feel approachable. What I especially appreciated was the respect given to the roots of fermentation across cultures—it’s not just a cookbook, but a celebration of ancestral wisdom. The photography and design are earthy and inviting, and many of the recipes feel like something you’d want to pass down through generations. I gave it four stars rather than five only because I would have loved a bit more troubleshooting advice and clarity around certain measurements or storage guidelines—some instructions felt a little open to interpretation, which might be tricky for total beginners. Still, this is a beautiful and empowering guide that honors the slow, sacred art of fermentation. A worthy addition to any kitchen shelf.

Kind of book I'd want in print
I was looking for directions for how to do one fermenting thing, and that was to make "spritzy" fermented drinks like lemon-ginger or lemon-cayenne or tangerine, and so forth. This book gave me the answer as to how to do that, but without an actual book in my hand, I had to write everything down as I went, then type it up. I have found that when I find a book for "how to" do something, I'd rather have it in print. But the book, because it explained what I wanted to do, as well as a whole lot I wasn't interested in (but most others seem to be), was excellent.

Love Pickled anything.
I am so looking forward to trying the recipes in this book. The only recipe I have tried were the pickled onions, which came out perfect. Easy too.

It has a fermented sourdough starter recipe!!
I’m so excited to find this book! I do wish that it had more fermented recipes than the add in of regular recipes. All in all I’m happy cause it has fermented sourdough recipes!!!
