Oriental Furniture 9" Yamanote Japanese Ceiling Lantern

This item is a pendant lamp, and is shown in the pictures hanging. However, it comes with no hardware to hang it - ok, fine. But looking at the top of the lamp, there's no ring, hook, or bracket to attach hardware TO. The only points on the top are off-center, so there's no way to have it hang from a chain or whatever and be balanced. It appears their intention is to hang it from the electrical cord, which I don't consider particularly safe. Further, if you do that, you'll find that the inline power switch is only about a foot or so from the lamp itself, which means that if you hang it by the cord, and attach the cord to the ceiling, you'll need to get on a chair to use the inline power switch.

Just to make it easy to understand what you are getting.You are getting the wooden lamp, which is of very durable construction.It has a sturdy thick metal frame, good construction, the bamboo looks nice and is assembled well.The light bulb socket is attached to this frame and a wire runs from the socket and ends in a 2 prong standard plug.Now if you want to hang this from your ceiling, like i did, you have to get yourself an outlet socket adapter  Leviton 1403 Two Outlet Socket Adapter, Black  so that you can attach that to your existing light bulb socket and then plug the lantern to this outlet adapter socket.This was the best way for me to use this with the existing light switch.It unfortunately doesnt look so good when you are looking at the old ceiling light fixture, but the lantern works great.!

This fixture has a lovely shade. In order to hang this as a swag lamp from hooks on the ceiling, a cord and chain must be installed. Additionally, the switch must be installed on the cord so that the fixture may be switched on and off from a convenient height. The shade is nice enough to make your trouble worthwhile.

They described this lamp as a swag lamp. To me a swag lamp is one that has a chain that allows you to hang the lamp from a hook in the ceiling and over to the wall and then the chain/cord goes down to an outlet. So the cord needs to be at least 12 feet long and you need to have a way to hang the lamp from a hook. This was not that way at all; it is a lamp with about a 6 foot cord, period.

Easy to change over to hard wired, looks good over our nook area. Use a round 60 watt bulb for a better look.
