Should've Bought Sooner
I've been wanting one of these for a while but couldn't justify it. Well I have started doing somethings to my 02 TJ and with gas prices so volatile I figured why not. I've looked at several of the recognizable names but wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money. I'm glad I didn't. I was so impressed by the quality and function. So you remove the old one, snap this in and attach with the provided screws to the gas tank neck. Took less than 5 minutes. This fuel cover is awesome. So it is a powdercoated metal and the lid has a spring on it. Why is the spring important? Well if you forget to lock it back then the lid won't be flying open. It seems to be of high quality and when I compared to those higher priced it is comparable. Final thoughts, if you are locking for a locking fuel tank cover then this is the kne you want. It's easy to install, high quality and not overpriced.

Fits perfectly
Read all the instructions before you start. Had I done that, it would have been an easy install. It looked easy enough. Don't be fooled like I was. After taking the whole thing off, reading the instructions and putting it back on the right way, it fit perfectly. It's a better solution than a locking gas cap as some of those seal the tank and you never know until it's too late. The lock works fine. The only thing is that the cap doesn't have a place to sit. I'll be adding a hanger for it.

2004 TJ Needs some modifying
So first off, it was a tight fit. There are 3 plastic clip that are supposed to hold it to your fender body. Mine were so tight, it was hard to get on or off. The top clip would not even engage due to the roll bar connection to the rear quarter panel. Second: the filler neck was a little too high and pushed against the plastic 'bucket'. I loosened the filler neck clamp and pushed it down on the hose some more. That seemed to solve the problem of it fitting flush. Third: I wasn't happy with just the plastic clips holding this thing to the fender, so I snapped them all off with a large screwdriver. Then I took a soldering iron and heated up the riv-nuts that were embedded in the plastic. They hold the "decorative" bolts in place. This gave me a straight shot hole through the entire assembly. I drilled out the 4 existing screw holes in the body and the bottom locating hole to 15/64" and inserted 10/32 sheet metal riv-nuts into the panel. I then took 5 stainless 10/32 x 1-1/8 socket cap screws and bolted the thing on using the original holes, except for the very top one. That is still decoration. Now it fits tight to the jeep with a solid mounting. I did have to file out the original hole a little bit using a half-round file on the left side to make room for the hinge. I used the original filler neck screws instead of the ones provided. Double checking, the original fuel filler bucket will still fit, just with 10/32 screws instead of the original sheet metal screws. Over-all I am pleased. *riv-nuts and ss socket caps can be ordered through McMaster-Carr

Looked Promising - Except it is Garbage!
Maybe I just received a dud, however. 1 - it will not "snap in" to the factory hole in the Jeep TJ (at least my 2004) body, and sit flush with body. 2 - using a dead blow hammer and a padded block resulted in snapping off the plastic tabs. 3 - broke off the remaining tab with pliers and it was looking promising. 4 - decided to use (4) of the decorative hex screw holes to just screw the assembly to the body (you know, like the OEM one does. 5 - was able to get the assembly flush to the body this way - no gaps - looked great. 6 - then the cheap potmetal door retainer snapped. 7 - tossed the entire thing in the garbage and reinstalled OEM for now - not worth my time returning, I'll just shop for a better product and leave this right here. Good Luck.

Nice easy upgrade look/lock
This being my second jeep, I try to keep mod costs low this time around. This won’t break the bank and it’s a simple install. I probably wouldn’t have purchased had I not lost the OEM locking gas cap. Kept reminding myself to secure the cap cable but after putting it off, ended up breaking, and I eventually got into a bad habit of not replacing the cap after fueling up. Inherently, that habit left me with a gaping non-locking tank for about a week. No issues. No one stole my gas. However like most things, it was just a matter of time for someone to hamper with it. Also it was quite incomplete and unattractive on the jeep. This replacement not only looks great but is a simple install. Took all of 10 minutes maybe less, but I was being particular about my torque screws. I actually decided to re-use the oem screw to secure the new housing inside vs. the Phillip screws that come with it. Just feels more robust and a nice blend of old and new housing. Hope this review helps. Other reviews helped me so I’m paying it forward.

TJ locking gas door cover.
Poor fit due to door hinge hitting body opening. Had to drill out screw mounting holes where 4 exterior screws attach the piece to body. Went one size up from 1/4 inch in order to allow clearance of body so that all 4 screws would install. Not worth the money, for the price IT SHOULD FIT without having to modify.

The looks great once installed and so easy to put in. Took maybe 5 min to install, no need to pull the tail light.

perfect fit for tj 2006 and the cap snaps shut. little pricey but was a much better fit and feels alot more solid than previous ones bought. may have to reuse original screws for filler neck as the ones they provide are a bit short.

Se instala fácil y se ve muy bien

The silver bolts for this are decorative only. The housing snaps in with 3 clips. This means that the housing does not sit flush all the way around. It would be better if the housing screwed on like the stock part rather than snapping on.

I purchased this in June 2023. In May the lock became stuck and wouldn’t turn. Even with spraying PB Blaster. The paint also started stripping off. I’ve purchased a Stainless Steel one without a lock in hopes it will last longer.
