AFM Naturals Clear Penetrating Oil - Quart
E**.
No more poly/varnish/sand&refinish!
I've been using this on my kitchen floor for a few years now, and while it needs a fresh oiling every year or so, its so much better than a hard coating on your floor that will eventually flake off or need to be sanded and refinished.... and who wants to move all your furniture (and you!) out of the house for a couple of days?? "Scratches" are an easy fix as well!To start, yes, you need a floor that does NOT have any varnish, poly, shellac (anything that is a coating) on it. So this is primarily for new floors.... or have your local floor refinisher sand off that coating ONLY (meaning do not apply poly, etc). Then you (or they) can put down this oil. (FYI - mine were previously finished...)First time, its two coats.... kind of like staining in that you brush it on the floor wet so it can soak in for a few minutes, then wipe it off the excess (rags you will throw out). Note that the wet application will show some spots soak it up, others not (I assume that speaks to the density of the wood I suppose), so wipe off the excess. If you don't you will get a sticky floor! THEN you apply a second coat a few minutes later in the same manner (yes, use fresh oil!). Its likely you will use less the second time since the floor is already partly saturated with this oil. Wipe off the excess and let it "dry" overnight. You can walk in it at this point but maybe wait a day before moving in furniture, area rugs etc.In a year or so, you might notice the floor looks a little dry, so apply a single coat in the same manner as above, but it goes quick and voila! And if you get a "scratch" (I've had one because the kitchen chair has those feet you nail on... it wore down to the nail and marred the floor...) , just grab a paper towel, dab some oil on the scratch, let is soak a minute and wipe it off! Done!Water is not an issue, just wipe it up. The well oiled floor will not absorb the water.
