The box in the product description is not the box i have received. is this product manufactured by upsher-smith or not?

I always get the two-pack of 500 mg, 175 tablets which don't come in a box, just the two bottles themselves. The bottle states it is distributed by: MainPoint Pharmaceuticals, LLC Louisville, KY, but the insert attached to the cap states it is manufactured by Upsher-Smith Laboratories, Inc. Maple Grove, MN. It's not uncommon for a drug or vitamin to be manufactured by one company and distributed by another company.

I need the polygel controled release niacin, does the "slo-niacin 500 mg tablets" have the polygel or is it different? thanks in advance.

Richie is correct, and Sassan is incorrect. Slo Niacin IS timed release. It is called "Slo" Niacin because the Niacin is released slowly. Like Richie, I have also taken this for many years with no flushing side effects. I take 2,000 mg every night, which is 4 pills. My doctor recommends taking a baby asprin 30 minutes prior to mitigate any flushing effect. This is a had tablet though.

How much of the flushing it can reduce than a regular niacin?

It is definately better than straight Niacin but I did experience enough flushing so I cut my intake to 250 MG. At that level I found it acceptable.

My bottle matches your description. I have used half a bottle so far and they work the same as the ones from wally world. That's all no got.

Lower Cholesterol

Slow release is preferred because I take it at night so when the flushing happens, it's when I'm asleep. My cholesterol did drop but I think changing my diet and doing more exercise and movement helped the most.

Much less expensive than Niaspan and did the job for me.

Began using Niaspan several years ago while it was covered under my work medical plan. Once I moved to Medicare my selected plan provided no coverage. I am a pharmacist and reviewed the literature and determined that the absorption profile was good in comparison to the prescription product, and that several large insurance programs used this as an alternative. Switched to see, and when my labs were taken after 6 months my cholesterol and triglyceride profile remained very consistent to when I was on the prescription product. Have continued to use for 5 years and have successfully kept my labs at target. Niaspan is a good product and I would have stayed on it if it had been included in my drug plan, but Slo-Niacin did the job for less money.

It does what it says.

My doctor recommended I alternate between the prescription statin drug and this particular slo-niacin. This one give me only a slight warming feeling for a few minutes. Others make me feel like I'm back fighting fires.
