Great Box Set (In My Opinion!)
First of all i want to say is...to the people who whine and complain about the quality of this box set or any other box set...and its contents...IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT....DON'T BUY IT!!IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT IT AND DON'T LIKE IT...SEND IT BACK AND GET A REFUND!!!Nobody is twisting any of your arms 2 buy these...but lets hope genuine fans can appreciate this band...music and all their future releases! It annoys me when people complained about the...OH BY THE WAY box set being the same old discs being re-packaged which was a fair point...but the same people were askin for newly remastered versions of the albums and for some unreleased material...now we have got what we as pink floyd fans were all askin...people see fit to complain about things like cardboard sleeves and the cost and so on...but the whole point of having different versions this time...DISCOVERY,EXPERIENCE AND IMMERSION..is so people can choose their price level and still enjoy the music!!!Anyway...my personal opinion on this box set is that its brilliant...i'm a huge floyd fan and have been for a long time and i tend to buy anything related to the band so i may have a biased opinion...but so what?I like all the books, marbles, the scarf and things that come with this set...from a collectors point of view it makes the whole thing more interesting! As for the music....we all know this is a great album and the different versions on here make for some great listening...you hear alot more detail in the 5.1 SURROUND version...and the quad version is also great, the live wembley cd is worth listening to aswell...great to hear this performed live from back then..and in good sound quality,as for the 2011 remastered version...people say they hear no difference...but i find it seems to be alot sharper and more defined...remember its a remaster and not a remix...i dnt expect to hear something totally different considering the remaster from the 90's was brilliant...but to have it cleaned up even more makes all the difference to my ears!Hope this review helps some people??If your a TRUE floyd fan i highly recommend it...if not buy 1 of the cheaper versions...but please don't be put off by the negative reviews!

Flawless
I do not intend to write an in depth review of the contents of this release as others have done the job far better than I could muster. However as a lover of music, and rabid purchaser of all cds from all genres that excel, I can with some experience say, that this box release is absolutely stunning in every single respect. Sure, for most people the experience release would be more than sufficient, because under all the glitter lies one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Dark Side is simply a stunning album and sounds as relevant today as it did in 1973. Having it re-mastered and sounding its pristine best is a no brainer. So why the box set? ( excuse the pun ), well for those people who love either the Floyd or simply this particular album, this is a wonderful thing of beauty. Yes it cost £90, and that is a lot of money, but hey if you don't want to pay that much then get one of the other cheaper versions, what is the problem? Having 6 discs and including memorabilia, artwork etc, what do you think it should cost? It is ridiculous that some of the reviews here give this magnificent work of love just one or two stars? Really? Unbelievable. So to sum up, its Dark Side of The Moon, if you can afford to spend £90 then buy it, if you can't, then don't give it one star, numpties.

Visit the Darkside.
I bought this totally OTT boxed set just to get a copy of Darkside in a playable 5.1 format. Why we couldn't have had the 5.1 SACD version reissued on DVD audio the way the Genesis albums were is beyond me. Darkside is and will always be my favourite album and having it in 5.1 just adds the icing to the cake. The surround sound mix helps to bring out every subtle detail of this magnificent album, but you do need to play it loud , which lets face it you where going to do anyway. The Blu-ray which based on the poor quality cardboard slip case, appears to have been added to the box as a last minute after thought does actually sounds better than the dvd. Talking of the dvd it might just be my system but wierdly the 488kbps version on the dvd sounds better than the 640kbps version? And the cymbals are too loud and sound harsh on the 2011 remix. So is the OTT box worth it, well with the scarf and the marbles (who thought they were a good idea?) and leaving aside the question of why the posters included with the original lp's weren't included, the answer has to be NO. But the 5.1 Darkside sounds so magnificent that I've bought the similarly OTT immersion 'Wish you were here" for the 5.1 version as well. So forget sense and join me on the Darkside of the Moon, it sounds great here.

The Ultimate Dark Side
A six cd,dvd, bluray box set of one of the worlds biggest selling albums. I remember way back in 1973 when it was originally released, it sounded way ahead of it's "time". Over the years i have often wondered, besides all of theremastered and re-issued versions, and countless albums and artists seem to be following in a similar path, so i guess we get to buy the album once againwith all the added bonuses? Just before it's release the amount of online hysteria and advertising was amazing, pigs flying, 18 second youtube samplesof Pink Floyd in various visual formats, you can check them out at "Brain Damage" UK, a brilliant UK TV advert, talk about saturation, is it worth it?You betcha! D.S.O.T.M, especially in dvd/bluray 5.1 surround sound, is simply stunning!! The 2 glossy photo books are good too, what can i say about the marbles very funny. If there was one disappointing aspect, there is not much to read, but who hasn't read a lot about the Dark Side, over the years! The next few days 3 more classics is it worth it again, no doubt! "Wish You WereHere", Jethro Tull's "Aqalung" this one will be huge, no marbles? FinallyThe Doors L.A. Woman box set! Bring them on!
