Good information
The advanced manual software from Icom is a joke!! This book puts it in plain English that is easy to follow.Required reading for getting the most out of your IC-7610.

Nice alternative to manuals
This book presents the author's alternative to the Icom manuals. Whether or not the presentation appeals to one will depend on how you like to learn things. In my case, I had thoroughly read both the basic and advance manuals prior to making the purchase decision. Therefore I really did not find any new information not in the manual. The book is well organized although there is some repetition between sections; that can be useful reinforcement for some. The author does a generally good job separating (and identifying) what needs to be configured from his personal opinions of how things should be configured. One nitpick on this was the sections on how to configure for WSJT-X. While these appear to be nicely done they have an unsaid assumption that rig control (e.g. CAT or otherwise) from the WSJT-X software is required to use its digital modes. In fact, it should have been noted that the software can be used without such control; it is only necessary to have audio in/out and XMIT control (such as with a Signal link interface box).Although I said there was nothing not in the manual, the book helped me clarify and fix an issue. I have a USB keyboard connected and it was not letting me write labels for memory channels. I thought that was just a limitation of the rig vs the capability to use the keyboard for the built-in digital modes. The manual does not have an example of writing memory labels via the keyboard. However the book made it much clearer that it should work and that let me find the problem (the USB hub port was off).Bottom line. I was afraid that purchasing this book would be a waste of money given the manuals. I now believe, given the complexity of the rig, that many would find this a useful adjunct source.

This Manual is Essential!
I would have been lost without this book. The Icom Basic Manual is helpful as is the advanced manual that you can download. This book, however, is like your Elmer telling you what you really need to know without spending half the day looking for it. As far as being useful it is a solid 5 stars. I gave it 4 stars because it could have some organizational, editing and printing improvements. This almost seems like nit picking, and perhaps it is. Although I think there was some room for improvement, do not hesitate to get this book. If you have an Icom 7610, you need it! I had an Icom previously and although I was familiar with their conventions this radio is complex and requires a real learning curve.

Very well detailed and clearer instructions than ICOM manual.
A comfortable size for reading one handed while you are playing with the buttons and such on the radio. This book gives much more detail and order to the operation.

The Book That Should Come With Every IC-7610
It has been my pleasure to own an IC-7610 for 13 months. In 61 plus years of being a ham, it’s best transceiver I have owned. Now, Andrew Barron has written a wonderful book to help me get more out of it than I ever imagined. In a well organized, hands on, how to fashion, he presents a great go-to reference guide covering all aspects of setting up, operating and trouble shooting the IC-7610 written in everyday, user friendly language. Better yet, at the end of the book is a glossary of amateur radio abbreviations/acronyms, and an excellent index, to help the reader go straight to any aspect of the radio that the reader wants to learn more about.Anybody who owns or is considering buying an IC-7610 should read this book. When I want to learn more about my IC-7610, it will be the first guide I open.

Outstanding reference for the Icom IC-7610.
This book is - in my opinion - a necessary addition to the Icom IC-7610 user's radio library. I transitioned from a Kenwood TS-940S to the Icom IC-7610 and this book was invaluable. Not only does the author describe the various functions, but he suggests settings for for them as well. While there are default settings, the author suggests settings that maximize the Icom IC-7610's performance. I have recommended this book to other Icom IC-7610 users.

Definitely Helps IC-7610 OPs
This concise and objective book definitely helps users of the powerful IC-7610. It does this by way of giving author's reference radio settings and what else is unmentioned in the Icom manual. Worth the cost of the book IMHO. 73

Larger font, better quality paper and very-lock binding would make this book perfect.
The content of the book is very informative and detailed. Is a good reference manual for the Icom 7610.Would give 5 stars if the font was a bit larger and the paper quality of the pages was better. The pages were hard to keep open so modification of the book was made by removing the back of the book and the pages of the book was rebound with cer-lock. Now the book stays opened at any page.
