soooooo much potential
The beginning and end of so many things are missing. Incomplete thoughts, non existent transitions, and it reads like an outline almost…. I really like the idea of the book and that’s why I finished it. But this isnt a writing choice, it’s not written well to be read well. Might consider reading this author again but will have to do some research before I commit to it.

It begins...
Born Captive is the first book in the Broken Angel Trilogy by Penelope Woods. This is definitely a dark and twisted journey the readers are embarking on by starting this series. I found myself pulled into the drama, intrigued by the characters and needing to watch the whole story unfold. There were parts that tested my limits for how sinister and how outrageous I enjoy my reading material but I couldn't walk away... I needed to keep those pages turning and I'm glad I did. I need more.I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Extremely dark but interesting
I usually don't read books like this. Certain subjects just turn my stomach and a few of them were in this book. It was the underlying story that kept me reading. The world building is great. The characters are interesting. For those who like a dark read this is an excellent book.

Great story.
Great story, but a little long winded at times. It took too long to understand what was going on and why. I'm hoping that the second book explains the story more. Lots of action that keeps you reading though. Thanks Penelope.

Terrible, Awkward and poorly edited
This book was rough to get through. I put it down half a dozen times. I am a "novel a week" reader and I read all sorts of different genres This is in my top 10 least favourite book of all time. The writing is incredibly awkward and the story dry as a bone in places. The characters are flat and the story itself could have been told in 50 pages. The dialogue goes from stiff and formal to awkwardly crass, as if the author has never used profanity themselves or participated in dirty talk. The whole thing was just....off somehowTake a pas on this one, its really not worth the time.

Waste of time
I don't think I have ever not finished a book. But I couldn't continue to read this. The story line was hard to follow, the main character was either being beaten and/or raped to keep her in line. It seemed she cared about them and making them happy, but all they did was abuse her. As long as did what she was told she was fine. I'm not into rape and abuse so this was hard for me. I dont think I have ever left a bad review, but honestly I wish I hadn't spent the money or time on this!

Need the next one!
Oh my goodness what a read. I have read some dark reads I don't know if they come close to this one. Rae that lady definitely has gone through so much and the way it ended I imagine that her pain is still not over. So now I have to wait it see if her and her men get to find peace and happiness in their world.

Waste of my hard earned money
If I could have returned this book I would have. The entire story you have absolutely no idea what is going on. The sex sences where a mess and frankly you couldn't follow what was happening, all you got was it was put in a "hole". Wow thanks for that telling image (sarcasm). Basically you are in the dark from beginning to end. In all my years reading I have never left such a shitty review, but this book was a waste of my time.
