I was skeptical, but it's become my go-to product!
I've been sticking with variations of the same style for about 5 years now, and during that time I've used every product available, from waxes to pomades, clays to powders, some work brilliantly, some have a terrible smell or texture, and some just don't seem to last. This was a game-changer for me. "How can a spray have the texture and hold of a clay?" I asked as I added it to my basket.I tried it out when it arrived and I was absolutely amazed! I spray it directly onto my towel-dry short hair (about 3 sprays across my whole head) and then 1-2 sprays into my hand. I then rub my hands together and use them to rub the spray into my hair and style it. You can feel the product providing resistance as you style, the texture changes as if the clay has been magically added somehow. It doesn't feel sticky, but you feel the resistance as you style and you know its a great product.Once dry, I check the style and add a further spray to tame any stray hairs that I'd missed or hadn't found, and follow up with a fixing hairspray spray if needed. It gives a firm, but re-styleable hold that doesn't go crispy, but stays in place. It adds volume and texture, whilst staying matte finish and lightweight. It smells great, and you don't get the dreaded blob of clay/wax that you forgot to blend in at the back of your head (we've all been there, when a friend or co-worker tells you about it, and you can't see it in the mirror because of the location). For day 2 hair, 2-3 sprays will give you just enough moisture and product to restyle for the day, but honestly if you rub through with dry hands instead and restyle it, it will give you a great 'tousled' look straight from bed, without needing too much of any other products.Overall, I absolutely recommend this product as a great alternative to anyone who is using wax, pomade or clay at the moment, and wants to keep the same style but try something a little less heavy, sticky and prone to clumping.I only wish that it came in a travel size (150ml is too large for most flying holidays), as I'll have to switch this out or decant for my next holiday.

Mattefying with a firm hold
This is a fantastic product if you are looking for something lightweight which has a strong hold and leaves a matte finish.I have dense but very fine hair which means heavyweight and high-shine products are not suited to my hair type. I have been looking for the perfect product for my hair for some time, having tried many options by different manufacturers. I am a big fan of American Crew and this product is the answer I have been looking for. This spray is best-suited as a base product. The instructions recommend that the product is sprayed into dry hair. I have had MUCH better results spraying this into wet hair and then blow-drying into the required style. I then finish the product with either American Crew Boost Powder (for a truly matte finish/‘no visible produc’ look) or American Crew Fiber (for a dull shine/texturised look). The latter seems to work better on Day 2 hair which hasn’t been washed the same day. This product is certainly worth the money if you have medium to longer length hair and are willing to spend a little longer blow-drying your style into place. If you’re looking for something for shorter hair which creates good results without the need to blow dry, I would not recommend this product. Skip straight to a finishing product by American Crew or, alternatively, Templeton Tonics.

4 star. Doesn't hold aswell as normal clay but good
If you’re looking for a lightweight, natural-looking styling product, a matte clay spray is a great option. It provides texture, volume, and a flexible hold without the greasy feel of traditional pomades or waxe

Quite a light hold, but a nice feeling and looking product
This is interesting stuff. I'm a professional hairstylist and have been using texture clays in my own hair for years and years, but I've never come across a spray version before. This actually reminds me a little bit like a salt spray in the way it works and feels in your hair, but a little heavier. If you're not familiar with salt sprays, then basically this leaves your hair with a non-greasy, matte look that feels a bit dry but it stays workable all through the day, so it doesn't dry out or turn crispy like gel or hairspray. The hold is good, it doesn't hold quite as well as traditional wax or clay, but it is a good light-medium hold for short and medium length hairstyles.I actually really like this. America Crew is a pretty solid brand and I've tried a few of their products before and they've always been decent. The scent is quite strong which might put some off, but it's a nice, light citrus smell which is pretty inoffensive and smells fresh. It doesn't build up in your hair and washes out easily, so overall I think it's good. I would recommend it for someone with short or medium length hair that is looking for a non-greasy product with a light feel, that doesn't need the rock hard hold of a wax. Due to how light it is, thickness of hair isn't so crucial and it should suit more or less all hair types. My only caution would be the scent, as long as you don't mind perfumed products then you'll be fine.
