what grit is the stone?

The grit is 8000. This is a small 1" X2.5" maintenance stone used for stone maintenance and building slurry on your knife sharpening stone. This is not for direct knife sharpening.

Wouldn't prove useful on a sword longer than a Tanto, and even then it wouldn't last long. It's mainly for flattening and cleaning whet stones. There are kits for sword sharpening, which are available on multiple websites. They're graded from the mid hundreds to about 10,000 grit if you're serious about keeping your swords sharp. Meanwhile, if your sword is not that rusty, try a 1000 grit stone to get the edge back. You can soak it in water for 10 minutes and work from tip to heel. Use extreme caution. The Nagura stone is not really meant for sharpening by itself, but rather for keeping your whet stones flat. In a pinch, however, it could be used for temporary maintenance of a blade.

When using this on 6k side of King 1k/6k, is the slurry formed intended as an intermediate step btw 1k and 6k, or as a further polishing step after 6k

Use it to make a slurry on the King Stone as you sharpen ~ just dip it into a little water and rub it around in a few circles on the Stone . It'll create kinda like a gritty, or slurry to assist in sharpening with the water stone. Also I keep my water stones submerged in water always , some do fow 24 hrs b 4 using . I just realized 1 hour in water isn't quite enough, seems I had to keep adding water. But if you submerge the stone 24 hrs or just leave them in water they seem to stay wet really good for sharpening when you need it. Also theirs a really nice $30 Strop on Amazon , it really works wonders and is built for life really nice piece of leather 3" wide.
