Q: What type of toner comes with this printer?

The MFC-L8900CDW will come with a standard yield black toner (approx. 3,000 pages) and standard yield color toners (approx. 1,800 pages each).

Q: Will the color toner "dry up" over time like color ink does in an injet printer?

I left the country, and my old Brother color laser printer, for 3 years. No one even turned on the printer for those 3 years (I shut off the electricity). I came back, turned on the printer and it started printing black and white and color documents and images like nothing ever happened. Meanwhile, my Brother inkjet printer had all of the ink cartridges become unusable and the ink nozzles in the printer became clogged from the ink drying up and I have not yet been able to unclog them.

Q: We want to be able to do about 10 pages of double sided printing, and have them come out collated in stacks. Will this do it?

YES! It double-side prints and collates very nicely. I just finished a project a few weeks ago of 75 copies of a 25 page, 2-sided, report. It collated it perfectly. Just be sure to make sure your settings in your Word or other document are set to collate. The only problem I noted is that the paper return tray would only hold about 200 pages, so I had to print mine in batches.

Q: if I insert a usb drive into it can I access it from the wifi network? my old printer does it, Im trying to upgrade but that is a big deal for me.

The MFC-L8900CDW will let you print from and scan to a USB flash memory drive directly from the machine. The ability to access your storage device through the network printer using a computer is not supported.
