Blackout
They are very good at blackout. We hung them on the cheap old-fashioned white aluminum rod so we could round the ends to the wall. Now the only place lights enters is a little on the top. This on a west, full-sun window. It also blocks heat. The temp in that room (in Arizona) is considerably cooler. Very happy with these drapes. Wish they had the right color for my other bedroom (peacock).

AT LAST MORNINGS WITHOUT SUN BLASTING IN MY EYES AND EVENINGS WITHOUT MY BIG SCREEN GETTING WASHED OUT AND NO MORE DRAFTS
As a retired Union Ironworker who spent almost my entire adult working life exposed to the elements and sun of the extreme spectrum of Northern Illinois weather, from not seeing above freezing from end of November to March, and rarely reaching even reaching 0 degrees in January and February to extreme heat and humidity from end of June to end of August with highs in upper 90s and humidity in the 90 plus percentage. When I would get home, I wanted to feel like I am indoors. I also suffer from allergies. After my parents passed away, I bought out my siblings and was able to by my home outright. It worked out well because, Mom got sick a couple years after my father passed and I moved in to help take care of her. And one of the things we were planning before she passed was getting rid of the custom vertical blinds and eventually the wall to wall carpet(which is covering up beautiful honey oak hardwood floors) that was all the rage in the late 1980s. I am sure someone spent quite a sum of money having those blinds made and installed but not only did they not do a great job of blocking out light or drafts or blocking the afternoon sun and solar heat blasting through my living picture window which faces due west in the summer or the frigid drafts that slip through during our frigid winters so it was time for a change. AND YES THEY ARE VERY EFFECTIVE AT BLOCKING OUT LIGHT AND SO FAR IN OUR EXTREME VARIED FALL TEMPS THEY HAVE HELPED KEEP THE LIVING ROOM COOL BY BLOCKING SOLAR HEAT AND WE HAVE HAD SOME EVENINGS IN LOWER 20s AND I FOR THE FIRST TIME COULD SIT ON MY COUCH WITH THE HEAT OFF AND NOT HAVE TO PUT ON A SWEATER. Best Home Fashion also makes a Tie-Up Shade Solid Insulated Thermal Blackout Window Shade http://www.amazon.com/Tie-Up-Insulated-Thermal-Blackout-L-BURGANDY/dp/B001BAIGU4/ref=pd_sbs_hg_15?ie=UTF8&refRID=042V5VDYMMQSRTWGWSWT which are made of the same exact material and colors and match perfectly. I have also hung two of those. So I have two bedrooms left to do. My son's and my own and while there is no question as to what brand I am choosing BEST HOME FASHION, i am faced with the decision of if I am going to cover all the windows with the insulated curtains or the larger double window in each room with the curtains and the smaller single windows the matching tie up shade. The cost will be about the same because I allowed him to choose what color he wanted and he chose burgundy and that is the color I am going to install in my room. So I can either buy 3 sets of the insulated curtains which come in pairs and split one pair up and hang a panel in each room or 2 sets of curtains and 2 matching tie up shades. I will make up my mind over the next few days as I see if the insulating performance of the tie up shade is as excellent as the curtains. I was expecting to have to spend a ton of money to rid my house of the quickly deteriorating and out of style vertical blinds. But for the quality of product you get these are very inexpensive. I also recommend installing redi shade pleated paper shades not only are they very inexpensive and super easy to install and able to cut the exact size to fit each window perfectly, they come in either original white or blackout black, and other colors, in widths of either 36 or 48 inches and cost between $30 to $34 for a box of six. You just measure the inside of the window, mark the paper shade and use a sharp kitchen knife or utility knife to cut them to sides, they also help to cut down with drafts. I hung the curtains and these with Kenney Ball Deco Window Curtain Rods which are $11.70 for 28-48 inch rods and $15 for 48-86 inch rods. So will be able to completely replace all my window treatments 14 windows in all, for $461 if I do all curtains and $467 if I put up one of these in each bedroom. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE FINAL PANELS ARRIVE BECAUSE JUST AS MY LIVING ROOM WINDOW FACES DUE WEST AND GETS FULL AFTERNOON SUN....MY LARGE BEDROOM WINDOW FACES DUE EAST AND THE SUN BLASTS RIGHT IN EVERY MORNING. So I cannot recommend the Best Home Fashion Thermal Window Treatments enough.

Mauve color is beautiful!
Great fabric, I was so happy to find that the mauve was true to the photo and not too pink looking. I had to iron it a little, but it wasn’t too wrinkly. I use this in my bedroom. One thing is that if you have kiddos with grubby hands or pets, the stains and marks will probably show with this light color. The fabric will probably stain easily ofc

I Was NOT Compensated For This Review - Pleased With Blackout Curtains
Amazon reviews have turned to utter junk lately because most reviews left are by folks who were compensated in some way shape or form in exchange for their honest review. I feel that this sways a reviewer of a product regardless of the statement that the review is honest or not.I was NOT compensated for this review. I was looking for blackout curtains for my bedroom as the window faces east and the early morning sunshine in the summer was waking me up at 5:00 ever morning. Now that my kids are hitting those teenage years and sleeping in until 10-11 o'clock during the summer there was no reason on God's green earth that I need to be up at the butt crack of dawn so the obvious solution was blackout curtains. After reading several reviews on other websites that were not Amazon that require the reviewer to actually have purchased the products without a special coupon code (not naming any names) I found these Best Home Fashion Thermal Blackout Curtains and decided that they seemed like my best bet in providing a darker morning experience as well as coming in a color that would work with the color scheme of my bedroom. I choose the Olive Green color as I have kind of a dusty green color wall color currently and that seemed like the best color option. I read reviews that the lighter color options did not provide as much darkness but the darker colors seemed to clash with my color scheme. The olive color was a medium tone and I hoped that it would provide sufficient light darkening.I had to wait for a weekend where my husband was home so that he could help me install the curtains...we had them hung up in no time with no issue with the curtains...it was the new rod that caused the work. I purchased two sets of two curtains for a total of 4 panels because I wanted to make sure I had enough curtain to overlap the window edges on all four sides. We hung the curtain rod about 6 inches above the window frame and let the curtains overhang the sides of the window by about 5 inches as well. I didn't want to give the light much room to sneak in around the sides. There is zero light let in on these curtains from the bottom and sides however a little light does come in from the gap at the top where the curtain hangs from the rod. A more fuller flushed to the wall curtain rod would probably solve this problem. You might also be able to jerry-rig something to put in the space between the curtain rod and wall to block the light. I was thinking maybe a strip of foam or something. I probably won't mess with it as really the room is pretty darn dark despite the slight strip of light that shines through. You could also purchase curtains long enough to mount flush with the ceiling and that might solve the problem too.Overall I am happy with my purchase. The fabric is nice and smooth, wrinkles from the packaging released on their own in several days. There were included curtain tie backs so I can open the curtains during the day so my houseplants don't die for lack of light and I don't stub my toe on the bed frame in the middle of the day shuffling around in the near dark. The price was right, my package arrived on time. I have zero complaints about my purchase so I am offering up a solid 5 star review. I was about to give it 4 stars for the strip of light that shines through at the top but the flaw is not in the curtain itself but in the rod I choose and/or how we decided to hang the curtain. I would purchase these again for other rooms that need darkening like my children's bedrooms but I am afraid if I may never see them again during daylight hours.
