Great 4K monitor for Win10Pro and Ubuntu
Hadn't had any issues with my ASUS PA248Q (24", 16:10 ratio, 1920x1200) monitor so I went looking for an ASUS replacement/upgrade and came across this monitor (VG289Q1A 28", 4K, 3840x2160).Primary driver was a slightly bigger screen and 4K resolution.I would have preferred a 16:10 ratio but those monitors are very hard to find and with the higher resolution of this monitor perhaps the smaller ratio (16:9) wouldn't be a big issue. After a couple years with this monitor I can verify, at least in my case, that the 16:9 ratio and 3840x2160 resolution works great. My use cases:- monitor is dual connected to an older computer running Win10Pro and a newer computer running Ubuntu 22.04- the old computer is basically used for playing old(er) games- the newer computer is used for business and personal use (including several Ubuntu virtual machines)- I have a KM switch for the mouse, keyboard and audio; for switching the monitors I just reach up and use the 'joystick' button on the back right edge of the monitor to switch between computers (I don't switch that often so the reach-and-switch is not an issue for me)The higher resolution of this monitor means that a lot of software defaults lead to too-small-to-read presentations (Win10Pro and Ubuntu) but after a bit of tweaking and trial-n-error I've got everything working comfortably.

Nice Monitor For Editing
This is a very good monitor for editing, though like all monitors it has a few quirks. As a gaming monitor I can understand why they put the power indicator LED facing downward, but that makes it completely useless in a well-lit room. With my AMD Radeon graphics card using display port I had to disable ULPS [used Afterburner] so the monitor would wake from sleep – YMMV. Not all the settings are available for every mode and setting individual RGB levels is only available using the Asus Display Widget Lite software, and then only in 3 of the modes. The monitor’s settings let you save favorites or presets, but that does not save those RGB adjustments. The Widget software hangs “Loading” if you have the monitor set to User mode, and it has a bug: if you change the OD level or amount, it will change the monitor settings according to the monitor’s settings menu, but when you run the software again it will always show 100%. The Widget software does not show an option for HDR, and it’s grayed out in the monitor’s settings menu until you enable it in Windows 10 Settings. Oddly, the Asus web site does not offer the Display Widget Lite download for this monitor with the height adjustable stand – no idea why or if it’ll work with that model.Windows 10 automatically sets scaling at 150%, which is fine for most of the apps I run, but I also increased the text size [under Settings -> Ease of Access] to 120. *For me*, reducing the monitor’s VividPixel from 60 to 40 improved text legibility. Using a SpyderX Pro calibrator & software I can only get 98% sRGB, though again YMMV, and setting RGB levels individually helped overall, though it didn’t affect that 98%. I wound up with Brightness = 51, Red = 70, Green = 67, & Blue = 71 -- YMMV. The gamma curve is close, but there are competitively priced monitors that do better. Setting the monitor to sRGB mode I get the same 98% coverage, but you can’t adjust anything in that mode, and the brightness was measured at 167.8 cd/m^2 – the software recommends 120 cd/m^2, which matches what I print, while 167.8 is too bright and does not match well at all. [You may or may not ever print anything, but I think that 120 is sort of a standard offering the greatest compatibility, so everyone else sees what you see, which is important for editing.]

Not too bad for a budget monitor. Hindered by poor design choices.
This monitor is not bad for a budget monitor. If it were a higher priced monitor I would be disappointed, but since it is relatively inexpensive it is ok. My monitor has some light bleed in the lower right corner, presumably from the power indicator light. The picture is fairly good out of the box, but it is greatly hindered by the lack of controls in HDR. When the monitor is in HDR, most of the controls are locked out. The monitor is locked into "racing mode" and even basic controls like brightness and gamma are locked out. There are also some very poor design choices. The controls are all on the back of the monitor, so if your monitor is wall mounted as mine is, you will really struggle with the controls, if you can manage to use them at all. The controls use an odd combination of strangely wedge-shaped buttons and a round, button-shaped joystick for controls. Trying to manage the controls on the back without being able to see them is very difficult, particularly with the oddly shaped controls. The power indicator light is buried on the back of the bottom right-hand side, so it is completely invisible to the user unless the monitor is inexplicably mounted above your head. Why even bother install an indicator light if the user can't see it?! The power indicator light also seems to cause some light bleed through to the panel, at least on my unit. So there is my review - a slightly above average monitor with poor design choices, but its forgivable because you do get good 4K image quality for a bargain price.
