The eclectic collection is an experiment in modernization: we took original doc shapes, and mashed them up to create an evolved feel. like the soho: a lightweight, yet durable shoe with a casual, easygoing vibe. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Great work/everyday shoe as long as the floors aren't slick
Great simple black sneaker. My only issue is that with the texture of the material, it is a little hard to wipe down, but I work at a bakery where I'm constantly dropping flour, powdered sugar, and coffee on them. The most important aspect is that my feet feel good after being on my feet all day at work and they look fly. (not great on wet floors though!!!)

That cushioning was mmmhmmm perfect, and unlike other shoes I've tried
Treated me REALLY well while I worked f/t retail. That cushioning was mmmhmmm perfect, and unlike other shoes I've tried, it kept my feet happy and (almost) ache-free. The shoes did degrade quickly (tearing up on the inside) but that's okay. I feel I got a lot of mileage out of them before they began to fail me.Would buy these again.

Great for food service
I bought these for work since they’re non slip, oil resistant, and discrete enough for work. They are so comfortable and also water proof! I walked to work in pouring rain and my feet were completely dry after 30 minutes.

Perfect for bad feet, fallen arches, low arches, and for types who can never find the perfect shoe...
I love Docs so much. I have always had trouble with my feet and backpain, as I have worked many factory jobs on hard floors. I used to be in Marching Band -- while in band my arches fell, and I have never gotten them back. These shoes are so perfect for low or fallen arches, as it feels like the soles really do bounce as you step and move.I have two pairs of Docs now and I will probably only ever wear Docs ever again. <3They are so comfortable!

Cool Spin on an old Classic
I got these for my wife and they fit as expected. I have bought Dr. Martens in the past and they were bigger than I anticipated but these ones fit her perfectly. These look like a classic Dr. Marten but they are made of Canvas. My wife is only allowed to wear black shoes to work which she was kind of bummed about but when we found these she was very happy. They are comfortable and practical and fit within her work requirements. She's happy, which means I am happy. We're all happy. I am considering getting a pair of these for myself! I already have them in High Top.

very narrow toe box
I want to love this shoe. As an avid Doc Marten wearer in the past, I wanted something a little more updated and lower-keyed. This would have been perfect. I bought the dark grey canvas in my regular size 6 but ended up adding a heel pad and insoles to try to make them fit. The sole is HARD. Like, cardboard hard. I ended up purchasing the black in a 5 and they fit much better, no heel inserts needed but I still needed something on the bottom. Either way, the toe box in both shoes is extremely narrow and I don't usually last the whole day in these. Bummer because they are really cute. Bottom line, I wouldn't buy them again. Maybe they'll be more fun in the summer once I break them in and can try without socks.

Third time buying these shoes!
I just bought these shoes for the third time. These are the only shoes I can wear to work without hurting my feet. I’m very very flat footed so it’s hard to find shoes that aren’t crazy expensive and I tried these. I love these shoes and it’s disappointing they don’t make them anymore. The ONLY downside is they aren’t slip resistant by any means if you walk on laminate floors and they’re wet, you might fall. But it’s still worth buying them again. I love these shoes.

and unfortunately the inside feels like it's breaking down
I've had the shoe for a while now, and unfortunately the inside feels like it's breaking down. My other pair I've had for almost 5 years, and don't wanna give them up- these were supposed to replace them... I haven't had them very long and they already feel like they're breaking down.

and as I liked them so much decided to get a new pair ...
Had the same pair last year, and as I liked them so much decided to get a new pair this year, also liked the little dm logo on the side which last years pair didn't have. They arrived without this logo (suggesting that they may be last years stock?) And also the fit was slightly smaller. Still look smart tho.

Nice and confortable
Nice and comfortable even if at the beginning they dig in in the back ( without socks). Compared to other Dr Martens are less comfortable. Very basic, good for everyday.
