The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy. See more

Skyhawk A-T: All the features I wanted
I spent a good three weeks researching various watches to replace the automatic that was failing to keep time. I was looking at the Citizen Calibre line of watches as well as the Seiko Coutura line, but I finally decided that the Citizen Skyhawk A-T was the only watch that had the three features that I really wanted:- Battery-free operation- Atomic clock accuracy- BacklightLike others, I was a bit concerned about the size and weight, and I did try on the titanium version, which costs $150 more, but I found that it was *too* light. It felt like I was wearing tinfoil. The stainless steel has a "reassuring, solid heft" to it, but it's by no means too heavy. And, the attractive dial is continually attracting comments. Not to mention that the hands and large markers are easy to read against the black dial. It's a very striking watch, and quite noticeable.Feature-wise, this watch is jammed-pack, which is quite amazing when you consider it's a solar-powered watch: time in 43 cities, countdown timer, chronometer, perpetual calendar, two alarms, and an atomic clock radio receiver??? I was a little concerned about it not getting enough light as I work in an office and wear long-sleeved shirts, but the power gauge never goes below "full charge." Very reassuring, indeed. It was really amazing to pull it out of the box when I first got it, and all the needles starting spinning to put the watch to the correct time. The only problem I've had was with the daylight saving time feature. As I live in Phoenix, we don't observe DST (who needs an extra hour of 120 degree heat!), and so I set the clock to Denver time and turned the DST off. But, every night, when the watch would receive the signal from the atomic clock in Colorado, I would wake up finding it an hour later than it really was, as the watch would automatically turn DST back on. After pouring through the manual, I found that you had to both turn off DST for the city the watch is set to, as well as turn it off for the atomic signal update. To do this second step, you have to set the sub-dial to RX-S and turn the "SMT" feature to "Ma." This essentially keeps the atomic clock signal from updating the DST feature. With that figured out, I really found that I enjoy this watch immensely. It is a truly complicated watch--probably one of the most complicated I own, but the instructions are very clear. Also, I hear what other reviewers say about the backlight only showing the date, but you can easily pull out the crown and switch between date and time, so if you put it on "TIME," the backlight will display the time in the LCD. So, generally, I keep the watch on the calendar feature, so I know the date. But if I need to turn on the backlight to see the time, I pull out the crown, turn it one-quarter clockwise to the "TIME" selection, and push the light button. It sounds like a pain, but it really isn't. I find that I could do this quickly and easily, even in a darkened movie theater. The trick is to keep both LCDs on your home time, so that the analog dial and the digital LCD show the same time.As for the links on the band, I wouldn't recommend trying to remove them yourself. I tried using a thumb tack, as another review suggested, but it seemed that I had to force them out, and it felt like I was damaging the pins. So, I stopped at a local jeweler who sized my watch for $5.So, in conclusion I've owned many different watches over the years, including a Seiko Kinetic, which I really loved. But this is the first watch that I feel that would actually serve me for many years to come.Update on May 21, 2011Just wanted to add that I've worn this watch every day for the past three years and have not had a single problem with it. All features and functions work like new and the batter charge is still constantly pegged at "full." And, apart from some light scratches on the crystal (which you cannot see unless holding up to a light a certain way), the watch still looks pristine and new.Definitely the best watch I've ever purchased. I don't forsee myself ever purchasing another watch for a long, long time.Update on Sept 3, 2014Still running perfectly for six years! I get the feeling that this will be the last watch I ever own.Update on May 19, 2017Well, it's been nearly 10 years of non-stop use, and the Skyhawk is still running like a champ. i did replace the crystal once (upgraded to a sapphire), but other than that's, it's been perfect. The power level is always on full. It's pretty amazing in this "disposable world" how well this watch has held up for nearly a decade...

Spectacular timepiece
Before I get into the details, in a nutshell, if you like cool watches with quality performance and handsome looks: BUY THE WATCH.This is a striking timepiece, both in functionality and physical appearance. Despite its beauty and overall appeal, be warned that it is not for the simple minded, or for those who like a clean, very basic dial, like a straightforward analog day/date for example. Frankly, the watch is quite complex and is capable of a myriad of functions. This may intimidate some people, but if you like the "does everything" watch, this is the one for you. FYI, the photo makes the dial look black, but it is actually not black; it is a very dark brown which becomes evident when you step into bright sunlight. A quick tour around the watch: the bi-directional rotating slide rule bezel is unique in that it possesses 12 little evenly spaced stainless steel raised knobs or studs on the side of the bezel. This makes turning the bezel much easier than normal. Pretty cool i thought. I haven't seen another watch with those studs, but maybe one exists somewhere, who knows. The bracelet is very pleasing in my opinion. Multi link style with more individual pieces than your average bracelet. Looks nice. The luminescence is very bright and responsive to almost any form of light. As soon as you step into even a slightly dark room from the bright outdoors, the markers are starting to glow, and in a pitch black setting they are "screaming" green after adequate exposure to light. I also like the orange light for the digital display windows. FYI the watch is so complex that the instruction manual is 115 pages long. Basically, if you lose the manual you are screwed because it is essential for operating the watch to its full potential. Even setting the time was brain racking because it doesn't operate like a tradional analog watch where the hour and minute hands are moved via the crown being pulled out and wound. Instead, you need to select your timezone on the digital display and press some of the function pushers and THEN the hands are automatically moved for you. Very cool, but it took me a while to figure out. Don't get confused or upset if you can't select the exact city you live in for your particular time zone. Just pick one of the cities closest to you that the watch provides. I strongly advise inserting the included instructional CD-ROM into your desktop and following along; it was very helpful. This watch is totally solar powered, and even gets charged from indoor light. The radio controlled function via the US Atomic Clock in Ft. Collins, Colorado is big time bragging rights if you ask me. Extremely high tech and keeps the watch 100% accurate. I stayed up one night just to see the 2 a.m. radio transmission from Colorado contact the watch and set it into action. I was impressed. World time in 43 cities is also stunning. This watch has way too many functions for me to list in a review, but essentially this is a great timepiece for a person who travels in and out of time zones frequently, or who needs unit conversions, etc., or just someone who appreciates a very competent watch with high funtionality, great craftsmanship, and cutting edge technology. I only wish that Citizen would have used sapphire crystal instead of mineral crystal. I still give it a five though. I hate scratched crystals on my watches, so perhaps after a year I will give the watch four stars instead! Amazing watch despite not having sapphire. What are you waiting for? GET IT DUDE!!!

Terrible
When you pay over $500 for a watch that says it's for aviation it should last when that's my job! The face of the watch was scratched within a week. The outside of the face is the real problem. All the paint on the furthest numbers is completely gone and is now just black. The closer number's paint is also extremely scratched and will eventually be unreadable as well. I have only had this watch for a year and absolutely do not recommend this watch to anyone!! Don't waste your money! As a side note: I have never been able to sync the watch up to changing time zones. It has never received signal.

Amazing watch but unusual calendar behaviour
Prompt delivery and a sizable discount over retail price is very appreciated. Thanks Amazon! It has been barely a week and I am really enjoying this watch. Everything works as advertised. There is just one caveat: the calendar in digital display 1 is bound to the world time and NOT the home time. The only way I could figure out viewing the calendar for my home time zone was to set the world and the home time zones to my local time zone.

Follow up to Initial overview.
I've just opened the box and the observations are as follows: The watch is nice and heavy, but didn't have a protective plastic disc on the face unlike other Citizen watches purchased through Amazon which always raises suspicions on whether it's been re-sold. Taking the watch out of the box saw it automatically adjust to the correct time - cool. Inspecting the face I noticed that the watch was slightly more than half charged which again raised my suspicions about whether I was the first "owner" to open the box. Finally the home time was set to London, but the instructions said the default home setting was UTC. mmmm....suspicious.The bezel moves freely, perhaps a little too much, but time will tell (sic). I don't have the need to calculate whether I can make my destination airport with only 240 gallons of fuel remaining at a burn rate of 3 gallons/sec and flying at 565 knots. I haven't adjusted the strap yet but the clasp feels high quality and I like the positioning of the release buttons. Watch faces are a very personal choice, this one is cluttered (which I love) but each sub-dial is beautifully detailed with three or four pins surrounding each. The second hand aligns with the dial which is to be expected on a watch of this price. More to follow after a period of use.....Well the strap was adjusted easily enough, after filing off the point of a small nail the pins popped out easily (great care was taken). The watch is heavy, really heavy at first but you do get used to it. The battery charge holds up very well. Others have pointed out the issue of pulling out the winder to adjust the function and the slightly fragile feel. I can echo this, it doesn't feel as solid as it should but I guess most of us don't jump between functions that often. Again, time will tell. The dial luminoscity is ok too. Overall a lovely timepiece.
