Great pen to write on a daily base

First class engineering, but pricey
I have really become so jaded with cheap ballpoint pens that leak, have terrible ink, or just run out. So I was searching for a quality ballpoint and settled on the Lamy 2000 Ball Point Pen. Everything about this pen screams quality. I can't believe how precise this pen is. I couldn't figure out how to see the cartridge - there was no seam in the pen body! But a slight bit of pressure and it unscrewed. You cannot see the seam when the pen is screed closed! The action is tight and the ballpoint makes those cheap ball points look like a basketball in a bucket. The tolerances are simply amazing. This is the best of German engineering. Some people have said the shape isn't good but this fits my hand perfectly. The design is sublime. What really sold me on this was that it was stainless steel and Macrolon. Now I know that's just a fancy word for plastic (polycarbonate if you want to get picky). But I knew it would be light and I was right. It just floats in your hand. The color and the brushed finish are beautiful.I would give it 5 stars across the board but I had to deduct for the "Value for money" category. This pen is pricey, and if you don't put real monetary value on the design and materials you might feel ripped off. I generally don't view art through the lens of "value," but I do value this pen as art.

This defines the retractable ballpoint
There are so many reasons to like this pen--let me just list them.1) It is a day to day workhorse. The finish is rugged and the kind of finish that mellows with age and actually improves with the trauma of a week's use. The fiberglass/resin has a very slightly coarse finish that wears down after one week and then you can't tell a 10 year old 2000 from a 7 day old one. The finish looks great always. No cringing when you drop it--it'll be just fine. Ladies can just throw it in a purse and let in knock around with anything else--it'll be just fine.2) Lightweight--does not pull down on the chest pocket. Does not tire the hand.3) Perfect size--not real skinny--not a big stubby bulky thing.4) The clip is rock solid and there is no challenge moving in or out of the pocket.5) Click mechanism is rock solid--can RARELY jam-up but with a little twiddling it'll fix itself.6) Pen itself is solid--not rattling or creaky/clicky when writing with this pen.7) Dress it up, dress it down--great with a three piece suit, great with jeans.8) Lamy ink refill is consistent--ink is a little dry and doesn't glide across paper like some but gives a good feel--kinda like driving a nibble sports car where you feel the road rather than a floaty Cadillac. Also the ink does not tend to form those gunky bits at the tip of the pen that need to be cleaned. I like the broad refill myself. Did I mention that the refills last a really long time?9) The pen itself is accompanied with a bit of history--at least the fountain pen is and well this is a derivative of that.I promise...for those who don't mind spending a few extra dollars on a pen...and don't lose them...this is the go to pen. And if you do lose it--at least it wasn't a 300 dollar Mont Blanc.

Ink is like sandpaper, even refills are bad.
The pen is awesome. The ink and writing experience is horrible. I even got refills and yuck! This pen sounds like sandpaper when writing and the ink is LIGHT. If you're hoping to see what you've written, get your glasses ready! If I could find a nice oil based ink or rollerball that fit, this would be the bomb. As it is, I'm just sad.

Design beauty - assembly flaw, maybe?
The Lamy 2000 is definitely a praiseworthy pen. The design is gorgeous; it looks like it's going to be heavier, but it manages to combine a light weight with a perfect body width. The brushed silver accents look really striking against the black body. No problem so far with the ink - neither the black that came with the pen nor the blue refill I bought because I generally don't write with black ink. Both refills (med point) are fine; they're not smooth like a Jetstream but definitely not draggy or skippy. My only issue with this pen so far is that the clip is a little jiggly. I'm not sure whether it's supposed to be like that or if it's an assembly flaw; I'm a little worried that the piece is going to come off, which is bothersome when I've spent $45 on the one pen. I'm hoping it's supposed to be that way and will stay strong and in place, because other than that I really like this pen.
