does not scratch film surface and easy to use
This is the exact same unit I purchased almost 40 years ago. Simple, reliable, does not scratch film surface and easy to use. OK, we're in the digital age, but if you want to shoot film, buying it bulk, spooling it onto cassettes and doing your own processing is the way to go. I only use it with black and white film for the simple reason that I send my color out for processing and they don't take customer spooled cassettes.

load it yourself
Saving money with loading my own black and white film. I used to do this years ago when film was king. I'm having w good time with my granddaughter while she takes a photography course. I load the film she take the pictures for class. So far A+. It came packaged very well. Sometimes the crank can get damaged in shipping but not this time. It was very well packaged and shipped in a timely manner. I'm happy with it.

Great bulk roller for making rolls the size you want.
Never had any problems with the bulk roller. Some people report winder issues but I haven't experience any however the little red knob on the end of the winder does seem stiff and like it sticks. I don't hold tight onto it, I just spin the winder with the side of my finger kind of like siling an old rotary phone (remember those?)But the bulk film and rol are both protected from any light leaks.

Works great except the winder handle fell apart before I even used it the first time
Works great except the winder handle fell apart before I even used it the first time. The handle assembly looked cheaply made and fell off soon after I took it out of the box. So, either I get sent a replacement handle or I send it backPS - The American made one I bought 45 years ago was much better made than the China made version currently sold

A Common Problem - be prepared to fix it before you use
Mine arrived with the same broken key / crank I'd read about in earlier reviews. It looks like they used a punch to just "peen" the joint together, and hadn't even tried to spot weld it. I saw it was broken before I even got it out of the package. The way it was boxed didn't help, so it could be the shaft and crank were separated after a few knocks in shipping. Either way, I resorted to hot glue (fail) then epoxy (success) to secure the crank back together. I was expecting this, after reading so many others has the same problems. For the price, you'd expect something with a little more build quality - even considering the "made in China" label.

difficult item to find but not on Amazon.com
This little gadget is a real money saver for those photographers that still enjoy film photography. More and more difficult to find in Camera shops. But thanks to Amazon.com that is a window on the North American retailers. And in just a few mouse click, you find what you were looking for.I guess Amazon.com is a derivative of Amazing Zone...

Ordered twice, both times arrived with broken crank
I have used this loader back in the day (1970's) and it was great. Unfortunately the Quality Assurance has gone out the window. I ordered this, it arrived with a broken crank. The handle was barely attached to the spool and broke completely off upon first use.I returned it. Amazon shipped a replacement, which got lost in transit and failed to arrive after two weeks. I canceled that one and placed a new order. The replacement has the same issue. I think I am going to find an alternative. It's a shame, this used to be a great device.

great product works well but had damage around where the winder shaft enters the unit. a piece of the baker-lite body had been broken i suspect this happened in transit, doesn't affect the operation of the unit.
