The best bit of kit I purchased.
Their maiden voyage was crossing the Vallee Blanche from the Italian side across the permanent snow and up the infamous arête to the Aiguille du Midi. Perfect! My companions used traditional crampons which meant they also wore gaiters but no such encumbrances for me.I also road tested them in the UK on wet and slippery ground, again with great results.

Mini Crampons
I bought these after I saw a review on Outdoors Magic. Having endured a terrible walking holiday in the snow and ice last dec up in the Lake District, I was determined not to get caught out again this year. The microspikes have performed much better than I expected. If anything, they are too aggressive for that annoying patchy snow and ice most inner cities receive. But take them out into the British country side or when roads and pavements haven't been cleared and it feels second nature. The first time I wore them, I was pretty worried about the stress I was putting on the chain anchors as I had read a few reviews where people had found that the rubber had ripped. But the more I wore them, the less I worried.I have been trail running in them. I noticed they gave me the confidence to blast up and down hills which I would normally have taken a lot slower. Out in the countryside they are very stable and bite into ice, snow frozen mud and grass extremely well. Care must be take on exposed rock though. And on wooden bridges, I found that the spikes buried themselves into the wood, bringing me down to a careful walk.During the worst of the freeze, I did take them pavement running. Again, the only problem with this was when I came across sections which had been cleared. the spikes don't slip, but they do feel odd (but stable) and make an awful noise. In conclusion, these are great out in the country side, and when urban areas are seriously snowed in. But if your only looking for something around town or if your big freeze is more of a freeze thaw with plenty of treated surfaces, your gonna find that the microspikes are overkill, and you could wear the spikes down really quickly.

Bought these after loads and loads of recommendations and good reviews and after I decided I needed something after crashing to the floor on some ice. By the time they arrived (which was still ridiculously quickly...), the ice and snow disappeared, never to be seen since! I'm looking forward to trying them out. They fit over boots and trainers easily and are secure without being impossible to remove afterwards. They will also help down at the horse yard in winter when the tracks freeze over and are hard, I can take the wheelbarrows to the muckheap and not be sliding all the way down!

A must for all winter rucksacks...
I've had my spikes for over a year and they have never let me down - many a walk has been previously spoiled because of slippy, icy tracks with nowhere to escape to. The spikes are easy to put on (and even easier to remove) and give confidence on the thickest patches of ice, they've also come in handy on snow and tricky descents too. Hubby has got the spiral yaktrax and I think he secretly wishes he's bought the same spikes as me.We've had black ice all weekend and they've been fantastic for walking the dog on the farm track / lanes etc (just wish they made a version for dogs!)
