My cats are healthy and happy 😊
I did so much research for my new kittens who had just gotten spade and nuetterd at the center so I wanted them to get the best that they can eat to recover and stay healthy and happy. I'm relieved that this food is 92% just beef which is wonderful because cats need meat since they're carnivores. The other 8% is chickpeas, mussels minerals like taurine. The ingedient list is full of beef and only beef which includes the liver, kidneys, tripe, and bone( safely it's been grinded up so they will not choke) so its not like we won't know protein they used per batch. Nope i'll always be certain its beef. It also includes green lip mussels which is fantastic for cats because it provides omega 3s and helps with their joints. Another plus in my book is that all this comes from new Zealand so I'm in 100% trust that the products from ziwi are safe and fresh for my lovely cats. Definitely value for your money you get 6.5 oz which is another half ounce most competitors take away. So the size works even better because if you have 2 cats it's easier to distribute the food in half with just 1 can rather than opening multiple small cans. Even if you just got 1(although they should have a buddy if possible) you just need to open 1 can per day for them since typically it 6oz of food per day per a avg size cat along with their activity lvls. Which brings me to how much more energy my cats have with this meal compared to others. Wow my cats are always ready to play and have an abundance of energy to go on walks and run around. Also i always here other say how much their cats sheds and as long as i have them in this range of diet they dont shed like crazy just normal levels so great nutrition for them means less shedding. I can't thank ziwi enough for having this line 👌🏻 10/10. So if you have the funds please give your cat the best that they can receive and your reward will be a happy feline that is happy to be your companion 😊

Great ingredients!
My cats absolutely loved trying this out, even my picky cat. I love the ingredients, quality, and smell. It gives me peace of mind they are eating good food. I wish it was more affordable but I will definitely look out for deals.

7 mm bones in food injured my cat
I have fed my cat Ziwi Peak for years; recently 7 mm bones in the food injured my cat. After eating, my cat vomited up his food which surprised me because this had never happened before. As I was cleaning up the vomit, I noticed small pieces of bone in the food. I pulled out 6 small bones, two of which were 7 mm long and 4 of which were 2-5 mm long.My cat stopped eating and drinking after that so I took him to a Pet Emergency Clinic . The vets at the clinic told me that the bones were too large to be in cat food, and that the bones had caused injury to my cat's digestive system. The vets were concerned that a bacterial infection could occur due to the injured tissue, and my cat started antibiotics. It has been 4 days now, and my cat is still barely eating or drinking. I knew that Ziwi Peak includes ground bone in the food, but these pieces are too large. I am wondering if there have been changes made in the production of the food since Ziwi Peak was sold to a China based private equity firm in late 2021.

Good quality cat food with no grains
Since there have only been two reviews on this so far I feel I must write comment b/c the numbers are skewed with one person hating Ziwipeak and another loving it;) My cat loves Ziwipeak and I went to great effort to get this to him, despite the cost. I have mixed feelings about this food because it doesn’t have everything I’d like out of a cat food (but I haven’t found one company that does…yet) but my cat really enjoys it and it is a higher quality cat food. The pros about this cat food: high quality (it smells fresh and I haven’t had a can with discolorations or anything suspicious), it’s a pate that’s mostly meat (so you don’t see chunks of other stuff like you may with other brands), and most importantly--there are no grains! It’s low in carbohydrates; according to Ziwipeak’s website it’s only 1.5% carbs, and if you read the ingredients they are mostly meat and then vitamins/minerals. The meat is free of antibiotics and hormones. And there are no artificial colors or preservatives. The ingredients are from New Zealand. This may not be a pro if you’re looking for U.S. meat (in which case I suggest Hound and Gatos), but the rabbit isn’t sourced from China (like Nature’s Variety). The cons: price! On Amazon it comes to $3.25/can, which is steep considering it has carrageenan. Though, I’ve seen it more expensive elsewhere. That leads me to the biggest con--it has carrageenan! Carrageenan has been linked to suppressing the immune system and inflaming intestinal lining; and I wish companies would just stop using it as the risks outweigh the benefits (of a slightly fluffier pate). My cat has IBD, so he already has inflamed bowels and I’ve been seeking companies that don’t use carrageenan. My feline has several brands of no-grain food to choose from, but lately prefers the rabbit & lamb Ziwipeak. Since my cat is ill and not eating well I have bought Ziwipeak from a couple of different online companies because my goal currently is to get non-grain/low carb calories into his body. After he’s gotten pass this inflamed bout I will go back to the carrageenan free kinds (or raw. I’ve really been looking at a raw diet b/c it seems to help IBD cats, but that’s another tangent.) ---UPDATE 9/7/16--NO MORE CARAGEENAN! I didn't realize this review was sitting out here with info on carageenan until someone reminded me. I still buy ZiwiPeak on a semi-regular basis and there hasn't been carageenan in it for awhile. So, yay!Other things to consider: There are bones in this food. I was alarmed to find my cat chewing a flat (pencil eraser-sized) bone, but after speaking with my vet and doing research on BARF diets I realize that bone isn’t something I’m going to concern myself with because a.) The food wasn’t cooked so the bone isn’t brittle, and b.) If I move my cat to a raw diet I’d want the bone anyway. I only mention this as a consideration if your cat has a health ailment where bones shouldn’t be consumed. This flavor is a mixed protein, so if you’re seeking a can with one protein this isn’t it. (Some IBD cat owners look for one protein source.) My cat loves rabbit and we’ve tried several brands of rabbit. For some reason he really loves this brand. It’s mixed with lamb, but my cat likes lamb too. If you’re looking for fast delivery don’t do the free shipping on Amazon with this. While I found Amazon to be slightly cheaper this order took longer to ship than Chewy and Pet360, so don’t order this in a frantic state hoping it would arrive soon (like I did). Give yourself amble time for delivery, pay extra for quicker delivery, or go with a company that delivers faster. If you’re leery of buying a case because of the price I recommend checking out Only Natural Pet, where you can buy by the can. It’s even more expensive but you can find out if your cat likes Ziwipeak and then order a case from Amazon, or elsewhere depending on who has what deals that day;).
