This is a heavy duty pivot hinge that I used to create a swing-out bookcase door. The upper component of the hinge needs to be installed in a routed pocket which allows the adjustment of the vertical pin. The directions are not very clear but once you understand how the mechanism to raise and lower the hinge works, it becomes intuitive. You then have to use a plumb-bob or vertical laser to align the placement of the lower hinge mechanism on the floor.Once I worked out the proper vertical alignment of the pivot hinge, I added casters to the other end of the bookcase to take some of the stress off the hinge (the bookcase will weigh over 100 pounds when fully loaded). Overall, I am very happy with the end result.Rockler and Murphy sell these same hinges for a lot more (2 or 3 times the price). This does the job for a lot less.Edit (7/23/2022) - After over one year of steady use, the hinge is performing flawlessly. Very happy overall.
