Beautiful book, great recipes
Wonderful book. It’s beautiful with gorgeous recipes. Found the story very emotive. It also got my daughter asking questions about Syria and we had a wonderful conversation where she was blown away by the idea of a child asking their father how many hours of electricity they would get in England or the idea of terrifying military check points.

Amazing book, fantastically moving story
Fantastic book, not only does it have amazing recipes but the chef has his back story running through the book. From car washer to restaurant in Carnaby street in 10 years, amazing refugee story.

An inspiring book (and the recipes aren't bad either!)
I bought this as a gift, but before wrapping it had a flick through. The recipes look great, very do-able and with mouth watering photographs. Plenty of veggie options too. I started reading Imad's story, which is interspersed throughout the book, and couldn't stop. What an inspiring and humbling tale, told by a man who loves his family, food, and the country he was forced to leave. It has totally changed my perception of immigration and illegal immigrants. This is a beautiful, well written book and would make a wonderful Christmas present .

Great recipes, but can be complicated to work out all the parts! Be warned
This does have some fabulous recipes. Different from many cookbooks with mouthwatering recipes.HOWEVER - be warned it is one of those books where whilst a recipe looks simple, you actually have components or sub parts in different parts of the book. Average is 3 different parts. This can very easily catch you out. I love the book, but I hate books that do this.

Great combo of story and recipes
I was first taught to cook Middle Eastern food by an Iraqi friend 40 years ago. Since then me and my family eat this way on a regular basis. This book is now joining my collection alongside The Baghdad Kitchen [which I also recommend if you can find it]. There's not much new in Imad's recipes but a great guide and nice to have the personal spice mixes. My daughter's birthday is not complete without a huge plate of dolma [made with minced lamb] and these are addictive.

Truly a love story of food & friendship
Watched Saturday kitchen 8/7/23 & could have listened to Imad story for hours. So I ordered the book straight away, the book is full of amazing recipes interspersed with wonderful & sometimes very personal stories of his life & losses. This is not just any cookbook it’s beautifully written with clear instructions & advice for any level of cook. A wonderful gift to anyone or be kind to yourself & buy it for yourself.A Love letter from Damascus to the UK not just London in my opinion. 5 star ⭐️
