Decent portable generator
I am quite impressed with how small the generator is and how able it is to easily generate a decent amount of power for small electronics.Looking at the other reviews, it seems that many reviewers aren't very familiar with how much energy it takes to generate electricity, especially by hand. If you know what to expect (this isn't going to solve your home's energy bill problems, and will give you a heck of a workout if you plan to try to charge your phone to full with it), then this does what it was designed for, and does it well.Going at around one to two revolutions a second, I can easily produce enough power charge a phone or battery pack reasonably (5V, and between 500 - 1000mA). Obviously it is a bit unreasonable to expect someone to crank away on this thing for two plus hours to charge their phone. But in an emergency where you just need a couple percent to make a call, this thing can be invaluable! It's pretty compact with the handle off, and is light for carrying. The only actual complaint I have about it is that the screw that mates the handle to the shaft is quite small compared to the hole they drilled. It's not a huge deal as you aren't going to be putting tons of torque on that handle, but I can see the screw already getting chewed up from only a little bit of use while I tested it.I will highly suggest to anyone planning on getting one to use it to charge a portable battery bank, rather than your phone directly. While the circuitry does provide a nice and smooth output, it can only do so if you're supplying it with enough energy. Because we as humans aren't going to be able to perfectly crank this at a constant velocity forever, it's likely that you'll slow down and cause the power to cut out occasionally. A battery pack is more likely to handle those cut outs better than your phone. Also, they're cheaper to replace in case they don't handle it well.

Hand Crank Generator
Nice item for learning, you can easily take the cover off with a few screws and see the internals. It is a simple generator/alternator like a drill motor. Adjustable voltage settings so power different devices/batteries. Crank could be better, some of the soldering etc seems cheap but it worked for me and for the money you can't beat it. It puts out about 300-400 milliamps, or about .3-.4 amps on the 5v setting on full crank. Enough to charge a phone over about 4-6 hours it says haha. Not too bad! Cranking is nice and easy, the short throw is a bit awkward but it's fine. More for learning and obviously not top notch quality, but still pretty nifty.

The Good & The Bad
Well, you get what you pay for I guess.....This product does work, but it requires a fix or two, and realistic expectations. The removable handle will remove itself because of the horribly designed manner in which its affixed to the "crankshaft." It comes with a small machine screw (see photo) to keep the handle on. Nope. You can't even turn the crankshaft without using this small screw to engage the handle to the crankshaft. And, there's nothing to keep this small screw from falling out routinely when you crank the handle. I'll have to search for a small machine screw with a matching nut to replace the original screw with.Read the skimpy (one sheet of paper) instructions that are mostly in Chinese. Make sure the output setting switch is appropriately set for your charging device. For example, USB output must be set at "5" or you'll see no charging register on you phone or other USB device that's connected. Additionally, charging is slow and requires two hands unless you affix this charger to a table or countertop. No mounting hardware is provided for this device. You'll have to improvise. The documentation provided suggests that it takes 4+ hours (yes, HOURS) of cranking to fully charge a phone. So, realistically, you may only use this to charge your phone just enough to make an emergency call. The Good? Its inexpensive and seems to work..... very slowly, if you invest time in overcoming shortcomings.

Hard to hold.
Product works as advertised. Will make the amount of electricity listed and isn't to hard to crank. However the Product is hard to hold. As you use the crank you have to keep the other side in place which becomes an issue if you have no flat surface to place it on since it is hard to hold.
