I wanted this model for sharpening lawnmower blades and wondered,if it will do the job?

Certainly, abrasive belts and discs can be used for sharpening any kind of metal blades. Choose the type of belt accordingly. You probably will want some kind of cubitron or zirconia. It will be expensive, however. Belts are much more expensive than grinding wheels, and will wear out much faster.

The sanding belt and disc is what is intended for wood. Get a metal sanding belt/disc and you will be good to go!
