Unior Reaming Pedal Taps

Instead of paying $300+ to replace the whole crank assembly, or even replace the bike as one shop suggested, I bought this tap and rethreaded the pedal tap myself ... a process that took only 5-10 minutes and works great. This tap includes a built-in reamer that cuts out any remaining old threads before it starts cutting the new threads. Remember to TURN LEFT ... I didn't at first. Have the tap cut new threads all the way through the crank arm, install an INSERT on the pedal (I used Loctite for good measures), reinstall pedal into crank, and tighten with a wrench. The insert may be a little long so you may want to trim it from the backside of the crank arm when done.You need to buy the proper insert also (unless it comes in a kit).Look for a USED one ... you will probably only need to do this once (ever).

Watched a YouTube video on the proper use of this pedal tap. Cut new threads in the aluminum crank arm perfectly, using WD-40 as a lubricant. Used Loctite to cement the insert and 24 hours later, screwed in my new pedal. Still holding more than a month after installation despite a local bike shop telling me it would never work. Ha!

Second set of cranks I stripped for some reason, this thing saved them. Great tool to have!

The picture and description are incorrect. The picture shows two taps (left and right) and six thread inserts (both left and right). The only thing in the package was the right hand tap. There should have been a device included with which to turn the pedal tap.

Worked just fine, even on my steel crank. Wasn't exactly easy though.

Used for a stripped pedal crank. Well made and did the job.

Does what it's supposed to and does it well

Das Werkzeug ist sein Geld wert, in wenigen Minuten konnte ich das Gewinde im Aluminium neu schneiden. Als Schmiermittel beim Schneiden / Fräsen im Aluminium Petroleum, Lampenöl oder ähnliches verwenden, aber keinesfalls Öl oder Fett. Tipp: Flüssige Grillanzünder sind oftmals Petroleum. Die Gewindeeinsätze kosten hier bei Amazon L+R ca. 10 €.

Excelente herramienta

Much cheaper compared with taps from other manufacturers and still works like a charm, cuts precise and without too much struggling. Saved some XT Deore crankset from the trash bin.Some minor downsides tough - there is no handle in the set so you need to buy it separate for 30 EUR, but I manage to use adjustable spanner to use this tap and cut the tread, so some savings there at my side. Also the thread cut with his UNIOR tap is not compatible with CYCLUS TOOLS pedal thread repair sleeve and vice versa as the thread pitch does not match so I had to buy UNIOR pedal thread insert instead which is twice the price of CYCLUS TOOLS thread repair sleeve.

I used this to cut a left hand crank where the pedal had ripped the thread. I needed a left hand pedal bushing and a cutting handle.I used generic lubricating spray and cutting handle to do the cut. The pedal crank is quite difficult to clamp and needs a fair amount of force once the cut starts. Turn anti-clockwise for left crank and make sure you pass the cutter all the way through and then detach it.This is quite pricey, but given it does the job and I can't see an alternative here I will give it 5 stars.
