This book is excellent for ESL learners.

Thinking about what job she'd have when she grows up, Dora lists a lot of options. The point she makes is that she (and her friends and your little Dora fans) can be be anything! The only thing that had me wondering was that if Tico wants to drive a fire truck when he grows up, that means he's still a kid. So why is he always driving Dora and her friends around in these stories? And in a story I read earlier today he was flying a plane! (Don't let your kids do that! I don't know why anyone let Tico do these things.)

Dora and Boots were thinking about what they want to be when they grow up. Dora wants to be a Soccer Player or Astronomer and Boots want to be a Teacher or Baseball Player. Dora's Mami has a cool job and so does Boots Daddy. Maybe they will be those. Or M-A-Y-B-E? You can listen/read to find out more things they might want to be. Well, nearly 4 yrs old, and my daughters obsession with Dora lives on! I actually purchased this book because I have been trying to explain the concept of work to my daughter. Why people work, what Mommy & Daddy do during the day, etc. While this book is definitely geared toward the younger child, it really does help get that point across. It has also led to a lot of imaginative play as my daughter "plays out" what she wants to be. My little one can keep this obsession as long as she likes, with the exception of a drain on Mommy's pocketbook, nothing but good has come from Dora.

This book came in a box set that I bought my 18 month old daughter and it's a hit. I really like the book because it's different than a lot of the Dora books. This book introduces different job possibilities which is a really great idea. Since she is only 18 months old, she isn't really thinking job possibilties, but for kids older than 3 imagination can really kick in. She just loves this book because it's Dora. It doesn't have a lot of Spanish in it, but that's not my purpose in buying these book. I buy them because my daughter loves them which to me is all that matters.
