I was expecting my skin to take a bit of time to adapt as some sources said, however I suffered no skin irritation or discomfort whatsoever. Overall it was a smooth and easy transition to this and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to a traditional shave.Pros:- Far less hassle than a traditional razor- I find it quicker than a wet razor shave, but might depend on how thick your facial hair is and how many times you have to go over the same area to get every hair.- Excellent battery life. Using it every couple of days I feel like I hardly ever have to charge it, and it charges very quickly whenever it needs it anyway. The red light makes it easy to see when it needs charging.- Being waterproof makes it great to use in the shower.- The trimmer is great for longer, stray hairs that the main blades can sometimes struggle to cut, and can also be used for other body hair.Cons:- Obviously doesn't give quite as close a shave as a traditional razor, but it's perfectly adequate for day to day use, and better than I was expecting.- Requires going over the same area multiple times, and from different directions, to get every hair, but this is easy to adapt to. Checked out what was on the market and more importantly prices !! along with features and decided to go with another Braun. I was not disappointed, Solid chunky feel and easy to hold it was a revelation, gliding over my stubble with ease and giving a close smooth shave. I am normally a wet shave man (and still am) but when I'm pushed for time or feel that my skin needs a rest out comes the Braun. Battery life is fantastic and the neat holder means it's not floating about in the bathroom cabinet. Quiet in operation and washes out under the tap. However why anyone would want to shave during a shower is beyond me so can't comment on that feature. Charges quickly and with indicator means you should never run totally flat. Only minus point for me is that the trimmer seems very stiff to move, can't work out whether it's the design or it's just stiff and will get smoother in time. Overall still give it five stars as I love it !! Of course, the neck is the hardest area to tackle and you need many many passes to leave the skin as smooth as possible. The smoothnes none-the-less will never be the same as that achieved at the mustache area for example.I haven't tried a \"top of the line\" product (e.g. Braun series 7) to compare the neck results, but I am rather unwilling, at the prospect of spending ~4 times my current expenditure to find out. It would be nice to know though, if there is indeed any difference conserning the smoothness at the neck area between S3 and S7.I would reccommend this item, especially if one prefers dry shaving and easy, manual cleaning, If you can, try it first to see if it gets along with your beard type.I'd like to note here that the shaving results deteriorate dramatically if one skips a cleaning. Totally as described. Its a very long time since I bought a Braun foil shaver. I drifted on to philishave rotary 3 headed shaver. After many years the heads are now blunt- 3 replacement heads are a small fortune-so time for a change. First impressions are a well made solid shaver with floating heads which angle themselves and follow the contours of my face. The foil is kinder on the skin than the rotary. I have particularly sensitive skin and the slightest drag or irritation brings out a red rash. This razor doesn't so that's a big plus for me. For this reason I cannot wet shave so wont be using this as a wet shaver which the description says you can. Comes with its own standard two pin shaver plug which will fit into the usual sockets you find on bathroom mirrors and shaver adapters but it chargers from its own small docking station into which the same lead and plug fits. I only hope the rechargeable batteries last and continue to hold their charge over the coming years- time will tell. There is a plastic cover guard for the foil which clips solidly into place. Without this I guess the foil head could be easily damaged. First charge is recommended to last 4 hours when the flashing green charging light remains permanently on. Use until battery drained then the subsequent full charges should take around an hour which provides 45mins use. There is a red light showing low charge but still enough power to finish shaving. It come with a small brush to clean the head. There is a long hair sideburns trimmer operated by sliding it upwards. Would recommend this product for those wanting a close shave especially with sensitive skin.
