Stopped wasting money on the cheap speakers hoping to get good quality
I have wasted more money on cheap speakers hoping for good quality then I paid for these two Mackies. These speakers are dead silent when they are powered on. I have had many cheaper pa speakers that have electrical hiss/squeal before you even connect the first audio cable. That is even with all the gain knobs turned all the way down. These speakers on the other hand are dead silent until you start feeding them a signal. I (and all our supporters seated near them) will really appreciate that fact this year. The Thump Connect app was very easy to connect from my iPhone 7+. The app made it very easy to control up to two speakers from the phone. The sliders were not as touchy/sensitive as some reviewer suggested. I could easily adjust the volume up and down 1dB at a time with no issues. My android tablet on the other had was super touchy. You could bounce from -15dB to +40dB very unexpectedly and good luck ever trying to get it to return to exactly 0dB again. I was a bit disappointed to see that the second speaker can not be blue tooth connected to my PC while it is in slave mode, but it was nice to be able to add a second speaker into the mix without having to run an XLR cable to it. Just set it up near an empty electrical plug, let it auto connect to the master and your ready to start playing music in no time. The first time I connected to the app I did have several unexpected controller disconnected messages. Once I rebooted my cellphone it got better but I still seem to get disconnected in the app when I'm not paying attention to it. If you are just quickly connecting to the app long enough to set some settings and quickly disconnecting, all should be good. I doubt I'd be able to keep my phone connected to the app during a full four hour trivia night event. Using the linked speakers for blue tooth music streaming from my PC or cellphone seems to work really good. Oh, and yes, with two speakers wireless linked you can choose from Mono or Stereo mode and when you change modes you can definitely hear the difference. With two linked speakers, It is not like your typically blue tooth setup where all channels are summed into a single mono channel (unless you want it to be).Overall sound... Everything is very clear and crisp albeit not always as loud as I am use to cranking music up to. These things claim 127 dB SPL, but they are not as loud as my Rockville RPG10 speakers that only claim 119 dB SPL. They sound much cleaner than the Rockvilles do definitely (Rockville speakers tend to be one of the better cheap brands, but getting a perfectly quiet speaker from them is hit or miss). I have yet to hook up the PA microphones to the Mackies but I expect they are more than enough speaker to fill a gymnasium with the voice of our MC. I'll find out in two weeks when we hold our annual trivia night fundraiser.Bass.... it really depends on the type of music you pump thru them. I was initially disappointed when I turned on the 70's classic rock station on Amazon... actually had to turn up the bass on the equalizer. Then turned on the Bethel music channel and had to turn the bass back down. Listened to some Reba, it sounds so good. Nice punchy bass with no distortion, crisp and clean :) Decided to see exactly how much bass I could get out of the speakers... YouTube bass test to the rescue. The walls and floors were rattling in no time but the bass did get pretty muddy in my less that optimal 5 x 8 room. The speakers were smelling pretty warm very fast so I only did the bass test once. Final decision, no need to be dragging that heavy 100lb 15" sub along with me to our events any more.Speaker size - these things are huge/bulky/massive but not extremely heavy. Still I would recommend a two man lift when putting them up on a speaker pole even if you think you can do it alone. I'd hate to see you topple over and drop $500 worth of speaker on the floor.

Great sound and it’s light!

My go to
Love it! Works great, it’s loud, it’s clear sounding in all aspects. I have everything paired together and they’ve played well in rehearsal as well as large or small venues.

Great for the Money
I put this speaker squarely between an EV and a Rockville. They are light, making them easy to transport and set up. The mids and highs are good, not fabulous. The Bluetooth feature works like a charm. They link together and you even get stereo separation. I have read here that some don't think they can "Thump." They do! With my DJ controller I can get theses 12" woofers to shake. The on-board three channel mixer doesn't do much, but in the phone app you have a decent equalizer. I was wondering whether or not I will need a 15" Mackie subwoofer to pair with these. I have a small gig in a couple weeks and I am going to try them out without a sub.

I love these speakers..
They have out worked and out shined many other speakers. The sound is great and they last a long time. I've had a set for 3 years now and they still sound great. It was all I could afford at the time and it took me a long time to save up enough and I bought them months apart and I haven't been disappointed once. I'm working up towards upgrading but I'm sticking to Mackie, guaranteed. I had their 12 channel mixer but while I was DJing a wedding, someone dropped and broke it. Worst day of my DJ career.

Sounds great for about 6 months!!!!
Backstory: I severely over bought when I purchased this speaker for my small group fitness class to use at my gym a few times a week. I over bought hoping that I wouldn’t run into any problems and on the off chance I do the “supreme” customer service of mackies would gladly accommodate me in timely fashion. Well 6 months into using the speaker the subwoofer stopped working.Follow up: I reached out to mackies by phone and couldn’t speak to an actually person. After a wait I got a response from a mackies employees just echoing their warranty info on their website. The website states to send the speaker into a certified technician. I live an hour outside of Houston. There is one mackies tech in ALL of Houston who’s hours are 4:30pm-6pm on weekdays!?!? And after multiple calls and voicemails to him he finally responds with “I’m no longer taking new customers”. So I had to spend $70 to ship it 4 hours away to the next nearest “certified technician” who “lost it” in their shop somewhere and I had to hound them to even get them to find it!Current situation: My 6 month old hardy used $500 speaker is sitting at the “certified technicians” shop waiting on a new subwoofer that won’t be available till late November or early December!?

Worked great for filling a gymnasium
I needed to replace an older Thump 12 which had a lot of miles on it. I love how the size and weight of these speakers compare to how well they can fill a space effectively. As a friend of mine wisely put it, I'm not 30 anymore and being able to heft a speaker to the top of a speaker stand isn't as easy as it was when I was 30 (or even 40). I got a set of these to replace some Yamaha powered cabinets made of plywood that I can heft up there but would really rather not. I would suggest using something to set the EQ of the speakers to the room you're playing (I love my dbx DriveRack) but I would suggest using one of those for any set of speakers - these Mackie Thumps or some other option. The weight and size of these for what they deliver made my decision to replace my old failed unit with an updated version pretty easy.
