Rage quit material
This is, actually, a good game. The gameplay is frenetic and satisfying... up to a point. About halfway through, the learning curve takes a vertical ascent. In over twenty years of gameplay, this is the first game I have shattered, shuriken style, against the wall. For that alone, it warrants a review.

Nice, laid back game
Spartan:total warrior throws you into the world of ancient greece and the roman rebellion. you fight amonst the legendary heroes of sparta against the might of the roman empire and other fearsome creatures such as medusa, the hydra and the undead. 3rd person fighters are generally not my style but this game was surprisingly laid back and the controls were easy to master. The fighting was sometimes a little repetitive but not so much i gave up completely. There's a variety of different mission objectives but killing roman soldiers is all i really seemed to be doing. However the graphics are very good, and the game is enjoyable for a couple of hours at a time, which was ideal for me. The game would be a lot better with a 2 player mode

a flawed great!
I loved this game for its hack and slash fun and the immense amount of enemies you can slice through to satisfy any violent gamers blood lust. However this game falls short of being a 5 star classic because of niggly little flaws that can really get on ur hoohoo diddies. Firstly, u can not cycle through ur weapons on the move which is a disasterous fault because often u have a hundered enemies linfording it toward u and u dont have any time. Secondly, the arrow aiming system is about as good as Sunderland's strike force, and about as accurate, meaning u always seem to aim at something u dont want to be hitting instead of an explosive barrel, which are very useful.Thirdly and most annoyingly the character seems to start walking when u need to be legging it, and he cant fall for more than 10 feet before he cops for a dirt nap! Now i cant fight like a spartan but im damn sure i could survive a 10 foot drop with little more than a sprained ankle. Now, if u have read this far u will probably be asking why i have give the game 4 stars? The answer is, it is immensely gratifying to slay 500 enemies in under 20 minutes game play and it is very gratifying to defeat tough enemies and bosses when u r also up against some rudimentary gameplay faults. This game will annoy the crud out of u, but if u love slashing hordes of romans and mythical creatures, it is worth 5-20 quid of ne body's money

One of my top 3 favourite games
I don't normally review but this game is really underated. I'm 35, an ex-squaddie & love action games, this one is right up there with Star Wars Battlefront 1,2 & Rogue trooper - which is just terrific.Response of the graphics to the controls in Spartan is fantastic - avoiding common gaming problem with loads of opponents on screen i.e. any idiot can get the same result by thrashing the controller.Subsequent levels & story board are good too. The Hydra level is the only poor level in my opinion.Later levels provide more weapons & advanced power for special moves which give greater playability as you re-visit the game to try to perfect control of specific weapon.A friend recently bought this for the PS2 after visiting & loves it too.Only drawbacks are single player only & it's currently not supported on the 360 (see [...]My advice buy it & prepare for a few late nights it's highly addictive.Great work SEGA where's the sequel?

Wonderful escapism at it's best....
It seems most games these days are first-person-shooters. If, like me, you fancy a change from all the wonderful yet similar FPS's out there, then I recommend Spartan: Total Warrior.S:TW is a third person action/adventure where you play the Spartan and get to do battle against Romans, Barbarians and mythological creatures such as Medusa and Minotaur (to name two). The gameplay is pretty much hack 'n' slash, but there are many weapons to be earned and each has it's own special powers, which means the outcome is much more than just your usual button bashing. Also the end of level bosses usually require a different approach in order to defeat them, which keeps the gameplay fresh. The story is very good and is excellently told through the game itself and the cut scenes. The graphics are also very good, especially considering there is never any slowdown (Xbox anyway). All in all, this game is less intense than most FPS's and requires a little less thought, which I felt was exactly what I was looking for. Having completed the game, I fully intend to play it through again. There is also a 'gladiator' mode where you can just take on hoards of enemies with a little or as much back-up as you like, which adds longevity to your purchase.
