It's good, but you need to know the details of what you want to do first.
I bought this unit to replace an older Linux based iptables firewall. It was suggest by a friend of mine to switch to pfSense because “it does what iptables does and everything else you’d ever want as well, given the right hardware, and this hardware is probably right for you”. I was really skeptical with pfSense and this hardware but I took the leap and bough this anyway. For the memory I had a 4GB DDR3 chip laying around so I did my own self upgrade. The system would only recognize either the 2GB stock stick or the 4GB add-on stick, but not both. This really isn’t an issue since 4 is more than enough. I also added a 100gb SSD that I had from a laptop that I upgraded recently. So far from a firewall perspective it seems to be working extremely well. The unit is fast (2 minute install from USB) and has the low power footprint that I need for my colo. But I’m still not sure if it’s the right hardware. I mean pfSense and this hardware doesn’t do “everything else”. I have 7 days’ worth of dishes in my kitchen and the laundry is starting to pile up. The dog also needs to be brushed and probably walked. So be skeptical when people tell you that pfSense and this unit will do everything.

Nice little box
Nice little box, but be warned that the AHCI sata controller is NOT compatible with newer versions of pfSense. You'll receive cam timeouts when it attempts to write a disk label on installation. There are some known freebsd bugs around this and a few workarounds, but I was not able to work around it on this board. An older version of pfSense worked great, but once I updated and got to freebsd 10+ the problem started and I could not get if fixed. It got worse with pfsense 2.3 and when I reverted back to pfsense 2.2.x I saw the problem with every version I attempted to install. Finally got 2.1 to install without error and I upgraded up to 2.1.5 from there, but that's as far as it will go.Take a look the pfsense upgrade page where they warn you about disk driver update and incompatibilities with certain controller begining with pfsense 2.2.[...]This is a nice little box and I would give it a higher rating if it were compatible with newer versions of pfsense, but given they are advertising it as a pfsense box even though it is incompatible with current releases I want to make sure people read this review and understand this before purchasing.

Seem to have a problem with PFsense.
Loaded PFsense on this to act as my firewall. Unlike the 10 year old server it replaced, this box didn't play as well with PFSense. I never got an update on the catastrophic crash that would happen every few days, but it appeared to be related to the USB bus. Eventually, PFsense would just crash constantly even after I reloaded it clean...twice. This may not be the box, but I replaced the RAM and hard drive and it continued to happen. Not sure what else to blame it on as PFsense is usually rock stable.I wouldn't suggest this unit due to the problems I've had.

Nice little system
I really like this box. It runs pfsense 2.2 64 bit very well and the hard drive installation was easy to do. I replaced a tz 210 Sonicwall with it. I have only used it for a month but it seems to be a solid little machine.
