Lock On: Modern Air Combat - PC

As I said it's old but fun! Being used to playing Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator this thing was hard to get used to as MCFS is a simple game compared to this hard core sim. I guess I shouldn't call it hard core, a true hard core is A10c, KA-50 and the like, but this is plenty hard stuff to keep me hopping for a while longer until I desire something more realistic in that I have to click buttons and knobs to turn on turbines, get the different systems on and other stuff I don't want to mention. It is fun but for those who want simplicity over difficult, this will be what gives the middling and bad reviews. But over all it is fun and has some very good AI. The graphics are nice considering the age of the sim and it is hard to master unless you have memory that sticks the first time around. But once you learn the sim it is awesome and rewording to play. I would recommend this sim to anyone who is looking to get an idea of what real world combat is as it is pretty comlicated at its hardest level. One thing to note, look to make sure you get the right joystick for this sim, as the wrong one will limit you to just steering the aircraft.

first off this game was shipped to me in nothing but a cardboard box with a paper cd case. no box no directions no instructions nothing!The game is russian I believe so you cant read a dang thing in the menu. The game also didnt work right in my computer and kept crashing (I have a Top of the line laptop that can easily run crysis on high settings.)I attempted to return the item for a refund I was never responded to so I got stuck with a sucky game that doesn't even work right and on top of that no game case to store it in! HIGHLY HIGHLY disappointed. DO NOT BUY THIS!

Here we have a potentially incredible flight simulator. But, only potentially. I was very excited when the game arrived, but upon installing it, I noticed several things. I had to immediately patch it, and upon doing so, I ended up with even more issues. The demo version let me look around the cockpit and zoom in to examine my cockpit instruments. Well, the out-of-box patched version doesn't even have the option anymore. In the Input menu, there is no option to start your engines. Before you say that I missed it, I ran my cursor over the entire 200 commands twice and there is no option to do so. So I finally start a training mission, and when I take over by pressing Ctrl+Q, it has me stuck in a zoomed view on the floorboard. I can't look up or zoom out, so I'm stuck like this. I finally get it centered right by pressing some complicated key combo, and I press Shift+Pageup to start my first engine. It does nothing. Alt+Pageup does nothing either. I haven't remapped any controls, so this 'patch' obviously messes up your game further. I try playing an MP match with a friend, and notice that you have to manually enter the IP address of the host. The IP address it provides does not work, and finally after trying a different number it starts up. You have to select missions through a basic file browser, and it locks up if you try to change to another mission. We finally get in, and find out that we can't get off the airfield using the training tutorial's method. So then I switch my view to an outer view, and my game locks up. I hit the pause key and hit it again, and it does nothing. I finally restart the game and we start again. The planes get in the air and we are trapped in a cinematic watching our planes fly to the mission zone which takes about 5 minutes. The plane dives down, fires a perfectly accurate missile into the target, and the mission ends. Any game with a demo that outdoes the actual game is not a favorite of mine. If someone could enlighten me on the above and why my flaps and gear only come out after my plane is out of fuel, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Don't buy it unless you know a good psychiatrist.

I've been messing around with flight sims since the days of the Compuserve Falcon Challenge Ladder and flying against aces like Victor "Duke" Z. When Falcon 4.0 came out, I was really impressed, followed by really depressed when Microprose/Hasbro raped and abandoned it.The out-of-the box experience will depend on how much effort you put into reading the manual, and setting up the game based on the abilities of your machine. If you're in a hurry and just want to blow stuff up, you might be a little disappointed.The graphics are nice, but not much better than IL-2 Sturmovik.The learning curve is there, but you have to remember what this sim is and what it isn't. It's not Crimson Skies.All-in-all, I'd have to say this is a very good sim with a lot of potential, but not as great as all the hype made it out to be a year ago.

Looks like a lot of fun but didn't work with my operating system. So, I can't tell you how great the game would be.

I would say that this is a fun game if you have the time and patients to learn all the different controls and operations entailed in the game. This is a very realistic game, and requires some knowledge of what some of the commands do. Otherwise, the game is awesome. The graphics are superb (unfortunately, I have a bad video card that struggles with loading and playing the game). But, if you have a state-of-the-art graphics card, you should enjoy the unbelievable graphics this game has to offer. GOOD GRAPHICS CARD PLUS SKILL = THE BEST COMBAT FLIGHT SIM EVER!!!
