Not that rapid.
This product took a very long time to be delivered, and it also takes a fairly long time for the supposedly rapid thermometer to register. This is not a 10-second thermometer... more like 30 seconds. Seems accurate for the few times we've used it.

inaccurate (low) readings, unable to return
This thermometer provides readings that are too low. I was testing it to be certain it worked properly (following the directions correctly for an oral temperature) and it failed on five separate attempts over two days to get a reading higher than 95F. Separately, I was unable to return this device for a refund from Amazon, which I can understand as this is a medical device.

No battery? Really?
Would love to be able to tell you how this thermometer works, but it arrived with no battery power. Useless.

The shape of the Thermometer made it very difficult to use by mouth. It is uncomfortably large and bulky.

3M sent this to replace a BD Accu-Beep thermometer that stopped working (very accurate until it broke). Nice of them, but this Rapid Digital Thermometer is a poor replacement. Compared to a glass thermometer of known accuracy, the 524109's temperature reading is always lower, and inconsistently so: anywhere from 0.3 to 1.4 degrees F, and it varies up and down in sequential readings. Both brands of rapid read thermometers I've used had the same problem, and I'm guessing that it's the result of trying to make the electronics predict the final reading before the thermometer actually comes to thermal equilibrium with your mouth (i.e., by extrapolating the data to predict the asymptote, if you see what I mean). It's faster than a conventional electronic thermometer in oral use; anywhere from 7 to 30 seconds vs. one minute, but I'd rather wait a whole minute and get an accurate reading. It's made in PRC, so considering the quality control issues of their consumer products, some examples of this thermometer may work OK, as the few positive reviews reported. And if you're only looking for the difference between a significant fever and a more or less normal temperature, it may be close enough - but so is a mother's hand.

Absolutely Inaccurate Junk
This thermometer is absolutely worthless and does not even come close to being accurate. Use it 10 times in a row and you will get 10 vastly different readings. I was out of town on business and bought this thing because I felt like I was getting sick. The readings were all over from 96.3 to 97.9. Each time I got a different reading and all were low, below 98.6. After I returned home I again used it and got another low reading. Then I used two other thermometers that both had the same readings and showed the Nexcare to be way off. In my opinion these Nexcare thermometers should be pulled off the market because it is dangerous for anyone to make decisions based on their inaccurate readings. You might as well stick your finger in your mouth, hold it up to the wind and take a wild @$$ guess as to what your temp is. You would be just as accurate as this thermometer.

Inaccurate, guessing would give better results...
I got this after I had a baby, and ended up needing it myself for post-partum infection. It's terrible! It regularly gives impossible readings (90F one minute, and 95F the next!)and I was sure it was operator error, as it didn't work right out of the box, but I went to the website, checked the instructions, and lo, and behold, it's a dud. It was about $8 more than the thermometer I wanted to buy as well. Crap.
