Powerful Microwave Works Well Except for Door Glitch
It’s an attractive and powerful unit. The power level option works well for times when reduced cooking intensity is required. We never use the fancy cooking modes, finding that the power levels work fine for various uses. E.g., power level 1 works best for defrosting; level 6-7 works well for baking potatoes, etc. Beyond that, we use the timer feature for timing some non-microwave-related activities. The one problem we’ve had has to do with the door lock. Since the day we bought it sometimes after closing the door and pressing the start button it wouldn’t start. The cooking time would begin counting down in the display but it wasn’t actually cooking. The interior light would be off, the fan off and no cooking was done. We thought about calling for service but the problem didn’t happen most of the time. When it did happen we found that we could always get it to work by opening and closing the door and then pressing start again. As time went on the problem has worsened. Sometimes it would take 2 or 3 times to get it to work. Now the problem happens most of the time and sometimes we have to open/close the door 4 or 5 times. And then we discovered another workaround—by pushing up while closing the door it works most of the time.Clearly, something is out of tolerance and with use (2 years) the problem has gotten worse. We considered calling the LG repair service but their minimum fee for a home visit is $125. So, we just work around the problem as described.

Beautiful design. Replaces range hood and separate microwave with no carousel.
It replaced an old range hood. Matches my non-LG new appliances beautifully. In selecting this model I was most impressed by the bold white on black graphics of the display screen. (why do some manufactures like to use gray on black?) Some complain of the dim view inside while cooking. Yep, it's dim. But if I want to see the progress of what's happening inside, I can simply open the microwave door. Less tolerable, is the relatively dim over-stove light. The bulb compartment seems to be only big enough for a tungsten bulb, instead of the the much brighter spiral florescent i had in the range hood. But one can see there is little room for anything other than that small compartment of the LG. I ordered a series connected led strip light combo to go under the cabinets and the microwave.Given earlier reviews, there were no surprises. I would definitely order this LG again.

Item is large but looks great
The only complaint we had was that the bracket that holds the microwave up was bent. Had to straighten as best as we could. Second, the door isn’t aligned right. It hangs down & we don’t know how to adjust it.

Hard to use touch pad, poor acoustics, and other design flaws
I'm surprised that this microwave is getting 4 and 5 star reviews from so many people. It works, sure, but there are several design flaws that have disappointed us. I'll list those first, and then the things we like about it:Cons:1. The touchpad is hard to use. Pushes don't always register, and to do multiple pushes on the same button, you have to fully remove your finger from the button and press again. That may seem trivial until you try it. It is very natural to leave your finger lightly touching a button that you want to press twice quickly in succession. And you do this a lot on this microwave, e.g. "add 30 sec" twice to get one minute or "2,0,0" to get two minutes, etc. In the manual it even coaches you on how to angle your finger and about the need to keep your hands dry. The buttons from my 15 year old microwave that this replaced were much more user-friendly.2. There is no reminder beep. One thing I loved about my old microwave is that if I left some food in it, it would give a gentle chirp about once a minute to remind you. When making a complex meal it's easy to forget that the sweet potatoes are still in there -- and very disappointing to find them an hour later. This microwave won't help you with that.3. It's noisy. It's not terribly noisy, but significantly more noisy that my old microwave. I don't know if it's the fan, the rotating table, the microwave generator (does that even make noise?) or what, but it rumbles a bit.4. Low acoustic quality beep. You are forgiven if you find this comment ridiculously nitpicky, but here it is: the beep is loud and of a cheap/annoying acoustic quality. I myself probably wouldn't have noticed this before the smartphones started paying attention to the quality of the little sounds (alerts, lock sound, etc.), but now I do. I think LG used a cheap buzzer component when they could have spent a little more on a nice quality sound. (If your hearing is not great or you use your microwave in a noisy setting, you may find this a plus rather than a negative.)5. You can't see your food. Most of the time this is a non-issue. But occasionally you watch to see if the water has boiled yet or some such. The glass on the front is very dark and the translucent area is so tiny, that it's almost impossible to see anything without opening the door.6. There are no quick-touch starting options. Well, there is "add 30 sec" which starts instantly and goes for 30 sec. But my old microwave also had one-touch buttons for 1 through 6 minutes. Frozen peas need four minutes -- one touch. With this microwave four minutes is four touches (4,0,0,start), or what I find myself doing is eight touches. ("Add 30 sec" to get it going, then keep pushing that same button -- each time fully removing my finger -- seven more times. As I write this I realize that that seems like a nutty thing to do, but there is something about wanting to get those peas going that drives me....). Even the "custom cook" button (that you can program to any time you like) is not a quick start button! You have to click that and then click start.Pros:1. Add/subtract 10 sec buttons. I find that a decent portion of my microwave use is in the sub-30-second range. My latte lost it's hot edge while the omelette finished up, so I need to zap it for 20 seconds. So I click "add 30 sec" and it starts going, then "minus 10" to get to 20. The first touch starts it immediately, and the second saves me from boiled-over mess in the event that I forget to hit stop after 20 seconds. Similarly for heating my latte milk: I find it takes 40 seconds, or "add 30" and then "plus 10," quick and easy.2. Looks good. I like the look of it -- you can see that for yourself of course in the Amazon photos. Mine arrived with no shipping damage and looks just like the photos.3. Low cost. I got mine for $279.99 here at Amazon. That was a good bit cheaper than some of the others I was looking at. But I expect this microwave to last (fingers crossed), and now feel bummed that I have to live with all those design flaws for many years. I would gladly spend more money for a reliable touch pad, a reminder beep, nice acoustics, a see-through window, and some quick start options. (Maybe I'll uncross my fingers.)

So far, so good! Looks great installed!
We've only been using this for about a week, but so far, it's great. It's cooks fast and evenly, the settings choices are great. The back wall template for installation was pretty accurate, however the top template was pretty confusing. Either I used it incorrectly (which is possible) or it is a little off. Regardless, I ended up having to redrill those holes several times before i found the correct location. Other than that, installation was relatively simple. This microwave was much lighter than the older GE model it was replacing, therefore much easier to work with. I can't speak to longevity, but out of the box I would recommend. In regards to the feedback that it's difficult to see inside, while the viewable area is smaller than my old microwave, I can still see inside just fine to monitor what is going on with my food when necessary.

Good looking and functions well
This microwave is attractive in my kitchen. The touch pad is not as sensitive as my last microwave's touch pad. The time disappears after 5 minutes. This is an energy saving feature and when you touch the energy saver button is reappears, but only for another 5 minutes. I do not like this feature and would like the time to remain on at all times. The microwave is powerful and cooks and reheats the food well. The timer only goes off one time and does not repeat to remind you. The microwave lacks a safety feature to prevent it from starting if the door has not been opened and there is no food in it.

Small dent, but otherwise, great buy!
Box was a little damaged (cardboard was cut into and had holes and smashed areas), and there was a small dent in the microwave which sucks, but otherwise, super happy. Product arrived very quickly, super affordable, and the microwave features everything I was looking for. The dinner plate setting is amazing and a real life saver with reheating leftovers. And I love having a soften function for butter when I bake!

LG Microwave fits our needs
Although this unit is was harder to install than I thought it would be, the result was a nice addition to our kitchen. The cooking times are quicker than our previous Sharp microwave, and the features are more expansive than the Sharp also. I would definitely purchase this unit again. Now if it will hold up longer than a free-standing Amana Radar Range that my parents purchased in the middle 70s and we have in the basement apartment of our home.

Buy with caution - beware of magnetron failure
I like this microwave and previously gave it a favorable review. However, mine had a magnetron failure (everything works - just won't heat anything), which is mentioned in numerous other reviews. I think it's a design flaw, and the nature of your install location and how you use it makes a big difference. The manual insists that you must run the fan whenever you have something going on the stove burners below. My advice is "don't fail to do this". I believe the magnetron failure is a result of overheating from below. We weren't scrupulous about running the fan (it's pretty loud) whenever a burner was going, and have paid the price. We've struggled to get a repair, and LG was little or no help. Our install has the bottom of the unit a few inches closer to the stove burners than might be the case in a more modern kitchen. It's a pretty big unit, so the vertical spacing, in our case, between the bottom of the unit and the top of our stove is probably at the low end of what's acceptable. My hypothesis that this is a design flaw was confirmed when I saw the latest model at Costco, which has a "filter extender" on the bottom, but what's effectively a HEAT SHIELD below the unit. The latest model is the same size, but about two inches "taller" as a result of a retractable filter encased in a metal housing on the underside. It's no fluke that LG put that there... Buyer beware!

Love it
It arrived very well packaged, not damaged. The interior is huge. The touch pad is an actual touch pad unlike the frigidaire I had, the touch pad on that had to be pressed forcefully. This microwave requires only a light touch, it comes with a template for installation. This made it quite easy to install and I am in no way considered the handy person.Interior is grey, it has a sleek looking exterior , the display window could be bigger but that does not bother me at all.I have not had any door latch issues as some reviewers mentioned. If you are on the fence about getting it , I suggest getting it. It was well worth the price for me.

LG Microwave
So far our microwave has worked perfectly. Installation was a project as we had to cut the cabinet to accept the range but the system for hanging the unit is simple and directions done well but you better be sure you get the mounting holes positioned perfectly or you will be fiddling with it a lot. Our only criticism so far is with the range light - a halogen bulb that gets very, very hot and yet gives relatively little light - even on the high setting. I would expect a bright LED light in a LG microwave of this caliber. But so far it has proven to be an attractive, powerful microwave.

Touchpad unresponsive after boiling water on stove top.
Looking to make some soup on the stove-top? Boil water for pasta? Better make sure to do it on the right side of your stove and hope that the touchpad still works afterward. We purchased this microwave in July '15, and three times had to call LG customer service due to an unresponsive touchpad after boiling water. Each time it took a few days for a tech to arrive, and when they did, the touchpad had begun working again. Each time the tech told us that since the problem had been "solved", and the production functioning "properly", they couldn't repair or replace any parts, *even though this was an ongoing issue*.It has now been three days since my wife decided to make some chicken soup, and we've been without a working microwave ever since. We've unplugged it, and plugged it back in, left it unplugged for a day, and nothing has changed. The light works when the door is opened, and when you plug it in it prompts you to set the time, but with an unresponsive touchpad it might as well be completely dead. Now that the warranty period is over, LG will not cover a repair tech coming out to fix this issue. Even though we reported multiple times the exact same issue while it was under warranty and nothing was done. We purchased all LG appliances for our kitchen. Fortunately for us, the refrigerator died while under warranty and was repaired. The microwave did as well, but as I said above, was never repaired properly, and now is basically dead. That's a 50% failure rate in under a year. We will not be purchasing any LG appliances, or any other LG products, ever again.

The older model worked fine until I melted it with a small kitchen fire ...
I bought this unit to replace an older LG model that was discontinued. The older model worked fine until I melted it with a small kitchen fire (naturally the one time I disconnected the smoke alarm). The new model arrived quickly. I got a friend to help install it. You'll need a friend -It's too heavy for you to hold it up with one hand while you screw the bolt on with the other.I gave it four stars in my initial review but I'm changing it to one star because after only a couple of months, the microwave's fan and interior lights would go on sometimes when I closed the oven door. But if I opened and gently closed the door again, it'd turn off. It's been about six months since I first installed this oven and this problem is becoming frequent. Today, my son texts me from home that the microwave won't turn off no matter what he does so I told him to leave the door open and when I get home tonight, I will disconnect it so it doesn't burn the house down. A microwave oven is supposed to make our lives more convenient, not fill us with dread that it can start an electric fire. Checking on the internet, it seems that this is not an uncommon problem. It's probably not going to be covered by warranty. And how do I get it to the manufacturer? They aren't going to pay a repairman to make a housecall for a lousy microwave oven. If I pay for shpping both ways, I might as well buy a new microwave. Lessons learned: I will buy appliances from a brick and mortar store whose return/service policy I understand and I will not use an over-the-range microwave again.

This is 2016 -- Should be designed better.
Replaced a 11 year old GE Profile unit with this. In some cases I feel this product is a step backward as far as options and ease of use.Clock will not stay on (supposedly an energy saving feature) -- ridiculous. Can't see in the small window to the dimly lit inside to see how food is cooking -- frustrating. Touch screen sensor food profiles have to be accessed by pressing the numeric keypad to see options -- time consuming. On the plus side I think the exhaust fan is great and isn't too noisy considering how much air is being pushed. Cooking is fast and even. I wish I had gone to an appliance store to see the features explained more clearly instead of purchasing online.

Not my favorite.
The timer only makes a small beep, once. So if you are out of the room, and come back in you do not know it went off. So I will be buying another timer for cooking. The clock on the microwave small not easily visible. Still trying to figure out the settings for cooking. It is much hotter than my previous microwave so trying to adjust to using the settings.I guess I did not realize how much I used my timer and clock on my other microwave. I would not buy this one again. I am sure I will adjust and get use to this one. No problems with the true mechanics of the microwave. It works fine.
