Q: Was this better in the past? I see a lot of positive reviews that are older. My recent purchase was just powder. It isn't usable in a tea ball.

a change has been made.. and NOT for the better.After using LIPTON LOOSE TEA for some years, I just recently opened a box and was dismayed by what I found. Immediately it was clear that there has been some changes. Even the box suggests a "new look... LOOK AGAIN! The old foil pouches containing the tea were thicker and were folded over several times at the top. The new foil pouch is thinner and heat sealed at the top. On opening the tea is almost scentless, where as the older version smelled wonderfully earthy. The new version is far more powdery, where as the old version was more leafy. It takes approximately twice the amount of the new tea, to make a similarly steeped pitcher of the old. Exactly! Ground up tea is the mark of inferior tea; hence the overwhelming choices of bagged teas, in which the consumer cannot see how bad the product is. I am flabbergasted that the American public has been subjected to the decline of loose leaf black tea. There is NO tea strainer fine enough to filter out this tea when brewed. The company has simply put the tea that goes in bags in a loose leaf box(there are no leaves here).

Q: I make 20 gallons of iced tea out of 1 box of Lipton 100 count bags. How many gallons can I make with 1/2lbs of this loose tea? Thanks

4 Tbsp. of loose tea equals to about 1 oz. I get approx. 3 quarts of iced tea per tablespoon. If my math is correct that equates to about 24 gal. of strong tea per 8 oz. box. I bring 3 qts. of water to a rolling boil, put in 1 Tbsp. of tea and turn off the gas. I let it sit until the pot is cool to the touch. This will take several hours, I often let it sit over night. Then I strain the tea into a pour container and put it in the frig. to chill before drinking. (If I add ice I do it right before I drink it. I don't want to dilute the strength.) It is more work and it may even cost more than the tea bags, but for me nothing beats the flavor of loose tea. P.S. If you don't like your tea as strong as I do, you may get 3 1/2 qts. of tea per tablespoon. That would be 28 gals. per 8 oz. box. You'll need to experiment to find the right strength for your personal preference.

Q: What is the expiration date on this tea?

The tea that I purchased , 6 boxes, have a date of 03/06/24. The tea is sealed in a foil bag and probably could be stored a lot longer. I have tea imported from China that is over 10 years old before they sell it. Just an fyi.

Tea bags don’t hold a candle to this

Nothing like loose leaf tea. Hard to find in the stores. Amazon came through! Same great quality and taste as always.

your pack or box exploded at opening

The black tea is very good for you, but the box just exploded in the opening, which is very unfortunate.I did not want to return it to AMAZON or ask for a refund but I was simply not pleased...

Loose Black tea

I purchased this to try in my Keurig to make brewed tea. Up until now, I've been purchasing the cold brew family sized tea bags to make iced tea. This is one box, & the loose tea leaves come in a silver bag. The bag is not resealable, so once I opened it, I put it into a plastic storage container to keep it fresh. Expiration for the one I received is Oct 2020 so plenty of time to use. It came out okay in the Keurig. The taste was slightly different than the cold brew, & it probably depends on how strong you brew it (large setting on Keurig). I also tried it as hot tea, & it was good with a little sugar. That is probably how I will use this box, & stick to the cold brew larger bags because they're easier to make one gallon at a time. One other thing I noticed is I had to use a spoon to get the tea leaves out of the reusable K cup. The tea leaves tended to stick in the cups more than coffee does. Overall though, Lipton is still one of my favorite teas, & I will purchase this box again.

Very refreshing taste

I buy a lot of tea directly from China an this takes a long time to get. Lipton tea is my daily go to tea that I enjoy very much. Price point is reasonable and has foil bag inside the box. Stays fresh which allows me to buy 6 or so at a time, enjoy.

Easily the worst loose-leaf tea I've ever purchased!

The tea is powder, so not suitable for infusion. You are better off buying any old tea bags. Honestly I can't remember ever having had a worse cup of tea.
