Overview The UR22mkII from Steinberg is a two-input, two-output USB 2.0 audio interface that features dual D-PRE microphone preamps coupled with 24-bit/192 kHz converters. With a dedicated high-impedance switch, a separate headphone jack, and phantom power supply, the unit is perfect for mobile musicians, touring DJs, or the small personal writing studio. Additionally, the unit can be switched to CC (Class Compliant) mode, allowing the interface to work with the iPad 2 or later. This feature requires Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit (iPad 2nd and 3rd generation) or Lighting to USB Camera Adapter (iPad 4th generation and iPad mini), and an external power supply with a micro-USB form factor (adapter and power supply not included). Combining the unit with an iOS audio application, such as Steinberg's Cubasis, provides an even more portable audio recording solution. With a Auray MS-5230F Tripod Microphone Stand with Fixed Boom features durable, steel construction. The 31.5" boom arm allows you to angle the mic however you need it. Unit broke two weeks out of warranty and Steinberg will not replace or service
No complaints about the unit's functionality, it worked perfectly until two weeks after the one-year warranty expired, at which point it started emitting a howl during recording that renders it unusable. Steinberg Support put me through the inevitable drill of updating drivers and firmware, which did nothing to help, then declared the unit dead and ineligible for replacement. The support rep mentioned that he'd heard of this problem, and I found a few posts in forums describing similar issues. They referred me to a repair shop, which I called. The shop never heard of or worked on Steinberg equipment and their bench fee for diagnosis would equal the cost of the unit.Bottom line: Steinberg does not stand behind their product. A real engineering company would replace the unit and take mine back to the shop to determine cause of failure and fix any design flaws or choose more reliable components.
