Compact Powerhouse – Perfect for Mac Time Machine Backups
As a long-time Mac user, I’m always on the lookout for compact, high-performance storage solutions that don’t compromise on reliability. The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB SSD ticks every box—and then some.Size & Design:The first thing that struck me is just how small this drive is. It’s genuinely pocket-sized—roughly the size of a stack of credit cards—but feels solidly built with a premium aluminium shell. It doesn’t get hot even after long transfers, and the textured surface offers excellent grip when handling it on the go.Performance:Using the USB-C connection with my MacBook Pro (M3), it performs flawlessly. I read it can get close to 2,000MB/s - all I know is that as a time machine device it is plenty fast enough. For a portable SSD of this size, that’s impressive.Time Machine Compatibility:I use this as my dedicated Time Machine backup drive. Setup was seamless—macOS recognised it instantly, and backups run smoothly in the background with no interruptions. The 6TB capacity means I can retain months of backups without worrying about space.Portability:It’s small enough to live in my laptop bag permanently. Compared to older HDDs I’ve used for Time Machine, this is a total game changer in both speed and size. There’s no noise, no spin-up delays—just instant access.Other Notes:Comes with a short, high-quality USB-C cable.Backwards compatible with USB-A (adapter not included).IP55-rated for dust and water resistance, which is a bonus if you travel frequently.Verdict:The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB is ideal for creatives, professionals, or anyone needing fast, portable storage. Its combination of compact size, high capacity, and solid performance makes it a top-tier choice. If you’re a Mac user looking for a reliable Time Machine backup drive that won’t take up desk space, this is it.

Speed, huge capacity delivered in a small package.
Very fast when used with my MacMini M2. Amazing small form factor. Useful as a backup and to keep all my digital photos organised.

Fast Write Speed
Changing from an external hard drive, I am impressed with the write speed for such a small Portable SSD Drive. Plug and Go functionality at a great price.

Well done Crucial. ...I will be purchasing another soon :-)
This a data storage - AND A HALF! :-)Very light and massive storage. So far so good - zero problems experienced with it.I followed the advice of another reviewer who recommended changing the file system from FAT32 NTFS. Reformating took about a day but it was worth it in the end. The FAT32 coming of the production line multiple type of devices can use the Cruxial x10. But all my devices run on Windows so NTFS is perfect for me.There are other technical differences between the two file systems so if you are not competent with tech then leave well alone. Your x10 will work fine just out box for all your needs. One tip I can pass on the from bitter experience years ago when first starting use flash drives is to never just hastily plug out the drive. With flash drives you have 'EJECT' first before unplugging the device. Otherwise you could corrupt the drive and end up losing all your hardwork and jpg and mp4 files 'in a flash' (get the pun) :-) The x10 and all portable SSD drives are more sturdy, but they are 'still' flash drives. Therefore, what I do is always makes ure the laptop is or pc is OFF 'BEFORE' I connect or disconnect the any portable SSD drive. As for funtionality - no problem with copying and moving files to/from the laptop/pc to the x10 - especially, if you laptop/pc is equipped with latest high speed USB drives.Would I recommend you buy the Crucial X10 SSD data storage device? Absolutely - 110% YES! ...Enjoy

Ultra fast transfers
Bit on the expensive side but then again, it is the smallest portable 8TB in the world, really happy with purchase, almost bought another, but maybe leave that for next month, Looks like I might be the first to leave a review that actually bought it myself and didn't get it free...
