I was pleasantly surprised when I received and unpacked these gears. I had planned to spend a few hours filing down sharp edges cleaning up all the teeth and keyways. It was great to see that some time went into the manufacturing process.

Ffar better than the plastic gears my 7x10 lathe I got from harbor freight came with. Runs much more quiet, haven't had any problems with running it and it trying to skip a tooth or two like the plastic ones. 1 problem however is the slot on each gear is too wide which crates a ton of backlash. 1 way to fix it is to get something to fill the gap. I used some solder for electronics. Do not use any solder for plumbing if you do this unless you dont mind having to break each gear off each time you want to change any of them. but whatever works for you.

Well made for the cost. I’m sure fit and finish varies as they are imports, but I managed to get them all installed with minimal fiddling. Change gears in the head stock were awesome and made a great difference in feel when engaging. Gears for the lead screw fit well and made minimal noise.

I ordered this gear set to replace the worn plastic gears in my Harbor Freight 7x10 bench top lathe. The gears are functional and seem to have a good tooth profile, however there were two issues that merit the 3 star rating. First, as other reviews mentioned, the sliding transmission gear bore is undersized. This would be easily fixed on a lathe, however my plastic gears were stripped which was the reason I ordered steel ones in the first place. I was able to open the bore on a mill with acceptable runout, but that took a lot of set up time. Secondly, all the gears were packaged together in a plastic bag and placed loosely in a cardboard box. During transit, the gears were allowed to impact each other resulting in damage to gear teeth. This required some careful reconditioning with a fine, small file. At the end of the day, these gears will work for you, but be prepared to spend some time on modifications and clean up to make usable.

Very good quality, should include a 3mm key way as well as the 4mm keyway then it would be a much better fit for my application.

These steel replacement gears way out preform the stock plastic gears in every way. Better torque, better meshing, and way quieter. Get some if you have a mini lathe, you won't regret it!

It's a good set of gears for my mini lathe even though it didn't have the allen wrench set screw and the packaging was something to be desired. The belt drive gear was a little banged up most likely during shipping but with a 120grit sandpaper burrs and nicks came out. I didn't notify the company about this because I wanted them installed.

The gears are nice but need some cleanup which was expected. The keyway is 4mm which I don't see noted in the description. My machine has 3mm keys so I had to make a stepped key and fit them to my shafts. So they are not just plug and play unless you have 4mm keyways in your current machine. The gears ran nicely though once fitted properly for the price if you are capable of working with them.
