Excellent drag on this reel
I own two of these, a size 30 and 20. I use them on my lightweight and ultralight rods with 6lb and 4lb test respectively. The use of aluminum on the reels really solidifies them. You never feel any kind of flex anywhere even though there are a lot of composite parts. The drag on these reels is just exceptional. It's hard to put into words how it feels, and how much better it is than say an Okuma Avenger reel, but it just feels so much smoother. When running light line and light to ultralight rods, the rod action, the reel drag and the fisherman's reaction to both is how you can get bigger fish in without a break off. I love the challenge, and these reels fit the bill well as part of the equipment.I had to rate a four instead of five because my 30 size reel had a good bit of gear slop when I got it (maybe 1/4" of movement at the handle before the gears engaged.) It's evened out some through use, but is still not as tight as I'd like. I will probably send it to Okuma for service. The 20 size was tight out of the box and remains so.**Note** Okuma must use a more viscus gear lubricant on these than most reels. Turning resistance is much higher than expected out of the box, but they break in after a couple uses. Also, these are not lightweight reels. The weights are clearly stated, so I cannot detract from the review. Just note these weigh considerably more than fully composite reels; I'd guess by 50%. Not a big deal when you are talking about the larger sizes with big/heavy rods, but it makes a difference with your ultralight rig.

Okuma Trio 30 and Ecooda BH3000
I have only a couple of months using a pair of new reels: Okuma Trio 30 standard speed ($57) and an Ecooda Black Hawk BH 3000 ($80), but I am highly impressed with both. This is my first time with either brand, normally having Quantum, Abu Garcia or Daiwa. The feel of both reels immediately conveys a sense of excellent construction. Although the Ecooda should have a better drag system, I haven't had any reason to doubt the Okuma either. The auto-bail on the Okuma works fluidly and as expected, whereas the Ecooda prefers to be put down manually. I find myself preferring the Okuma, although there is little difference. I don't care for closing the bail manually when throwing spinnerbaits. Between that preference and being over $20 cheaper, that would put the Okuma Trio 30 as the better buy. Time and usage may separate the two more in performance and longevity, but for now I give both 5 stars as the finest reels I've owned (all under $100). I may end up picking up another and would be happy with either.4/2016 update: The Okuma Trio 30 is still my favorite spinning reel. I've paired it with a 13 Fishing 7'1" medium fast action rod, for the perfect combo. I've landed from well under a pound up to an 8lb largemouth with no complaints, no drag or casting issues. I can't say the same for the Ecooda BH3000 I bought at the time which has developed (withing a short time of my original review) a grinding noise/action with nothing evident to cause it. The Okuma soldiers on. I have an Okuma Avenger that is not of the same quality, but not a bad reel. My next Spinning reel will be another Trio or something up the Okuma line, possibly my next baitcasting. I doubt I will buy another Ecooda.

Smooth, quiet, strong
Have the 20 size reel. Put it on a 7 ft med Okuma EvX rod, great pair. Pay little/no attention to the review that complains about the speed, the ratio is 5.0:1, pretty common ratio for spinning reels, the newest high grade quantums are 5.2:1 - good luck noticing the difference when you're using them for what they are meant for - if you're trying to burn spinners or frogs with them - probably not gonna work out for ya. If you want speed, get a baitcaster. This reel is machined to a pretty good/tight fit, very little play, operates silently, more so than some $180 spinning reels I own, the drag even on the 20 size is tough and very smooth, easily handles 5-6 lb bass. Looks - if you watch the price, this may be the coolest looking reel you can find under $50, all my buddies love the feel and look of the reel, if you carry it around the boat dock you'll get asked who makes it several times, lots of compliments. Great budget reel, drag is excellent, streamlined design, this reel balances slightly different than other spinning reels, nice design touch by Okuma. Release your drag pressure when you stop fishing for the week or store this one, will make a difference in how long you use this good looking reel. This is a solidly built reel, don't let the material list fool you, very sturdy, Okuma is very good at using lighter weight materials in places that do not hold stress.

Not smooth, not good for saltwater Trio-40
I don't think I've written a review on this but if I did and weighed it favorably, I'm sorry. Out of the box the grip on the end of the handle spun roughly, it felt like it was grinding. I contacted the company (Okumo) and they said they would send me a new one...never happened. I've used it off and on for the last year and was never really happy with how it felt. It all felt like it ran rough. Today I opened it up to clean it and see if I could figure out what made it run so rough and what did I find? Mild to moderate corrosion over the gears! This is a SALTWATER reel and yet there is no seal around the edges to keep out water. The "corrosion" coating they used must be minimal at best. Every time I come home I wash the reel and then spray it with oil. I take pretty good care of my equipment so I really didn't expect this. I've torn apart several reels in the last week or two to do the same thing and NONE of them had corrosion in them. It's also really hard to get the gears to line up on these reels. There is a little tiny red mark on the top of one and the bottom of the other to line them up. The problem is the line isn't exact! I'm still not sure I have it lined up right though any other setting jams the reel, so I guess it is. This reel is entirely too complicated for no particularly good reason. For a reel that is toted as this amazing "crossover" construction, it's actually a piece of crap.My fault that I let my warranty expire (last month), sure wish I'd checked the guts of this thing a month or two ago.Don't spend your money on this reel, there are other, better reels for about the same $$, get one of those.

Great reel for the money
I have used one all season for smallmouth fishing a dropshot and have landed hundreds of large smallies with no complaints. I run light line and drag is very important. This reel worked so well I just ordered another and plan for one more for my son. I have had Okuma spinning reels in the past and have no complaints.

Disappointed
The reel feels like you are reeling in a fish all the time ever since I have received it. I have given it time for the grease to thin but still the same problem. It has gotten more clankety too. I am disappointed

excelente
