A good solid phone
The Medion Life X5020 is a well built product made with good quality materials, it boasts a large clear display that works well with the intuitive android software. The product perhaps boasts more battery life than it actually provides, usual browsing and texting required 2 charges daily this became a huge hindrance. There were a number of apps that were built into the phone that were poorly built and unnecessary but ultimately can be ignored. The phone brings to mind that of other more standard smartphones but ultimately this product is of a good build quality and is nice to use. The headphones that came with it were very good, and cancelled a lot of noise and were good for short tube journeys. The storage capacity is good and the dual sim element of the device was very useful and made an easy transition from using an iPhone. There are perhaps better phones on the market but for an entry level android it should well be considered.

Poorly and incompletely documented, user consideration evident by omission
This is an incomplete review, not through a lack of intent but because of poor design, a lack of user consideration and appallingly incomplete and undetailed user documentation, not that any was included in the box - it had to be downloaded. Due to its multiple failings, it proved impossible to add a SIM and consequently proved impossible to use. Those same failings will, of necessity, also result in a low personal rating. The Medion Life X5020 is a slimeline smartphone with a 5-inch screen. Powered by Android 5.0 Lollypop it provides for all the apps available from GoogleStore plus a Built-in GPS system, FM radio, audio and video players. It offers the usual two cameras, a 5MP front-facing module and a 13MP rear-facing one with a built-in flash LED. It has a usefully large 5-inch screen, practical although not the largest possible but then the phone does not have the price of the larger screens. It is an IPS unit, reasonably bright and contrasty but not necessarily the highest quality. The battery is a permanent fitting but offers 2600mAh for a longer stand-by and talk time. In fact, the impression was the phone is fully sealed all-round including the essential SIM drawer. Similar construction principles apply to modern-day Apple products but there the comparison ends.According to its packaging a Quick Start Guide is included but was not part of any of its documentation although the downloaded version suggests it to be part of the Safety data. Documention comprised a Safety Guide and Warranty booklet but that was all. It is claimed to be able to accept both a nano and micro-sized SIM plus an SD card. Although the extractor tool was not provided, once obtained it proved that there is space for a micro-SIM and SD card but no space for a second SIM - the product descxription and documentation are not correct, possibly relating to another version of the product. The manual is downloadable from Medion's German web-site, in English, but it is basic and far from detailed providing no clear labelling of parts and what, precisely, goes where in order to help a first-time smartphone user. On the plus side the battery was fully charged on receipt. This is not the first smartphone used but it is the least easy to get into to complete initial set-up.There had been experience of the brand in other areas of technology but they were not the most positive due to an undue proportion of early product failures and subsequently poor personal brand rating. Expectations of this phone some years on were higher on the assumption that lessons may have been learned from past failings, if they were then recognised. The brief operating instructions and its glaring omissions suggest otherwise! E-mail support is possible but the process was far less immediate or as simple as it needed to be simply because it required product registration before the process could begin. Even a simple enquiry that requests 'how do I do this?' was stated to need a minimum of 72 hours, not exactly immediate and also not quite so outstanding! That alone would deter many a prospective customer. For a price of circa £250, this may be a considered purchase for some but the suggestion is to look elsewhere, opting for better documented and better designed products or the support of a knowledgeable salesman, not a possibility in this instance. In brief, avoid the product and the brand - if Medion cannot be bothered to provide full essential information from the outset, deny them your funds. Other brands may better appreciate your custom!

Great value
Great value for what we needed. Only minor concern is the smooth surface which can be a bit slippy. We have bought a case which is excellent quality, reviewed separately.

A very good smartphone for the price
I won`t pretend to be an expert on smartphones, I have been using a Moto E and been happy enough. However my son has the latest Sony model and helped me set this up today. In the box you receive the usual warranty and safety info and a quick start guide to the phone. In my opinion it could be better with more instructions. To fit the sim card into it`s slot required a special tool to open, we found this at the bottom of the box with no information as to what it was for. In the sim card tray there are two slots which may be used for two sim cards or extra memory. I find this useful as I usuall buy an extra sim to use abroad. The phone itself looks very well constructed and stylish, the case is made from metal and the screen from Gorilla glass. I found the screen to be very responsive for touch and swipe action, the camera 13 mp and the few photos I have taken I am very happy with.My son`s phone cost him more than double the price of this one and he is very impressed by the specs. If you are looking for a status symbol or big named phone this is not for you, however if you want a smartphone that won`t break the bank this is ideal.I recommend it and have just placed an order for a cover to protect mine.

Good value budget phone.
Bought a few months ago for £100 when Medion were having a clear-out. Works fine for my main requirements :- 1. as a phone is adequate but best when using a 4G voice connection - the voice quality is amazing - but most people except me already have this (I live in the middle of nowhere almost). 2. Google Home/Maps. GH functionality is dependent on Android version and the Medion doesn't provide full functionality. EG home broadcast isn't available. However, maps -for navigation- works fine and in-car voice control is basic but works. 3. Music. I use Deezer (with GH) and that runs fine on the Medion. 4. loads of memory and storage space -a bargain for the price. The not-so-goods. 1. the battery is small but is good for 1 day of normal use - the Android allows a nightly shutdown which helps if you don't charge every night. 2. crashes; I've had 2 random NON-RECOVERABLE crashes; these were of the "battery removal required" variety of crashes; the problem here being that the battery is not removable and so ONLY solution is to wait for phone to fully discharge -overnight is normally enough- and then it kicks into life from 0% battery. **no power/volume key combination works in this situation** Summary. An excellent value budget smartphone. Especially is you can buy it near to £100.
