NSD swim made me swim like a pro!
I rarely use my backyard pool as it is too small to swim. I could reach the edge of my pool after three strokes. NSD swim did make my pool endless for swimming. With the App, my swimming can be diagnosed in real time and I am able to review it later just like a swimming coach working with me. This thing is very good for swimming professionals and amateurs alike.

OKAY! NSD Swim is amazing! I have never come across anything that can do so much. It tells me everything! I know exactly what is going on with my movement in the water and how to improve it! I highly recommend this product. If you want to someday be like Michael Phelps, this is the quickest way to it.

Swimming Performance Tool - Not bad!
I was interested in this because I have a pool, and like to keep track of my exercise. I have an Apple Watch, first generation, which tracks a lot of different activities - but it's not waterproof. The pool I have is only 15 by 30, so being able to swim while tethered is good because I no longer have to worry about hitting the end of the pool or having to keep turning every few strokes. I can just concentrate on swimming. The package comes in a box which includes the tracker device, a USB cable (charger not included), two lanyards, and a belt with foam floatation pads on it. A poster has the basic set-up instructions and some disclaimers. The NSD system is fairly straight forward. Download the app to your smartphone (I'm using an iPhone 7 Plus), charge the tracker, and get it talking to your phone via bluetooth. The app exchanges data with the Health and Activity apps on my iPhone; it synched right up with the tracker with no problems, no fiddling with settings. The tracker goes in between the anchor point for one end of the line and the other end attached to the swimmer. It measures the pull on the device and sends the info to the phone app which translates it into strokes, physical effort, calories burned, workout length, etc.I gave it a test run in my pool. The belt took some adjusting to get it to fit right - it's a little fussy but adequate once I got it figured out. I found a secure place to anchor the tracker device. It's water resistant, not waterproof, so it has to be anchored where it will be kept out of the water. There are attachment rings on opposite ends. The anchor lanyard is the short one. The other attaches to the swim belt.I started the app on my phone, and a green indicator on the tracker lit up steadily to show it was talking to the phone and was ready to go. (It flashes when it is trying to make a connection.) I hooked the lanyard from the swim belt onto the tracker, and just started swimming. It was that simple. This was the first time I've tried swimming with a tether. I found I was able to adjust to it without too much trouble. Swimming puts tension on the line, which the tracker... tracks. Stop swimming, take the tension off the line, and it stops. I did a couple of short test sessions and checked the results. The NSD app shows things like number of strokes, estimates the distance that would have been covered, the effort, and so on. More to the point, the information also was reported by the Health app and the Activity app on my iPhone in the formats used there, so it can be compared with other kinds of exercise. Again, it was automatic once I gave the apps permission to talk to each other.A couple of quibbles. The swim belt might be a little more comfortable to wear, and it would be nice if the tracker was waterproof, because accidents happen after all. Getting a waterproof phone case might be a good idea too, for the same reason.Overall, my initial impressions are that this is a pretty cool package that can used for serious swimming workouts. I've only scratched the surface of features that are in there. I will have to leave my review at this for now, because further pool sessions will have to wait for warmer weather. My pool is outdoors in upstate New York - and the water temperature is 64° F at the moment. If I get a chance to get to an indoor pool, I'll have more to report. So far, this looks really good. The software works well with my phone, and the hardware is functional enough for what it does.

In the right hands, almost better than a coach
I've first competitively swam in 1985. After 13 years of twice daily practices, I was a great swimmer. I still have a school record in the 500 yard freestyle. In many respects, I regret it. Swimming is tremendously effective exercise in some respects, but it's not that interesting, and it doesn't condition the body well for injury and stress because swimming is so incredibly easy on the body (aside from the exertion). It's also an excellent exercise at burning calories without harming your body, so it's great for older adults who want to tone up.This device actually exacerbates and enhances these benefits and problems.I put the bouys on, attached the module to the belt and the starting block, and did a workout with my phone on little stand thing to watch my swimming. The module synced with bluetooth easily. I had to play with the belt a few times, but by the end of the first workout I had it figured out and the next time it was no problem. It's really not as comfortable as just wearing a bathing suit, but swimming is generally miserable if you're doing it well. The tracker detects how hard the tether is pulling on the starting block (or whatever you attach it to). It works.I did an intense workout and then watched the stats. Like in high school, I got a lot of feedback showing form issues as I got bored more than tired, which actually led to inefficient swimming, which led to my getting tired. It was fascinating to watch. The data seemed incredibly accurate, albeit data I never actually had access to when swimming competitively. I saw how far my strokes took me, how powerful and efficient each stroke was, how fast I was swimming, my yardage. I could watch my strokes that were the best, and compare the the ones that were objectively poor.I really enjoy that this is verifying what many swim coaches told me over the years. In particular how my elbows leave the water dictates so much of my form. This tool is for a serious swimmer. Someone who has to practice without a coach, or perhaps just has a hard time understanding their coach, will benefit a great deal from seeing themselves from third person, with objective data. It's also useful for someone with a small pool. I enjoy flip turns and I enjoy the sense of movement when I swim, but in a small pool, you're turning so much that you never really get to swim, so this device actually enhances a small pool to where you can get a genuine full workout, complete with accurate yardage information (which is essential in my opinion). Hell, you even get to see how many calories you burn (and I believe the data). For me, this is something I'll use once in a while, but I have access to a big pool and I like doing flip turns. Removing the sense of motion makes a sport I already found kinda boring even more boring. If you're just doing laps and not too worried about your skill level, get a nice smartwatch that tracks your yardage (they can tell when you turn and multiply turns by 25 yards, while tracking heartbeats). It's a cool package, and it does what it's advertised as doing. A lot of serious swimmers are going to love it. A few less serious ones are going to appreciate the novelty. Everyone else is going to be better off with a different product.

Turns your backyard pool into a lap pool
I was a competitive swimmer when I was younger so swimming is by far my favorite sport. The NSD Trainer system is absolutely amazing. It is like having your own personal trainer with you anytime you want to swim/train.This device tethers to your pool so you can swim in place with no problem. You sync the device with your smart phone using an app and follow the instructions. It’s very easy to use, and understand. It gives excellent feedback and information. You can also find some very useful videos online that can help you develop a good routine using this system.I’ve never had anything like this before, but I can tell you, it’s awesome for anyone with a pool. Swimming is an excellent way to stay in shape, and it’s very easy on the joints/low impact so it’s a good sport for any age. Using this device can help you stay fit, and improve your swimming skills.
