It works. Not bad at all!
Using the Ion Film 2 SD isn't that hard to use. The instructions are pretty easy to understand and clear. Compared to my old film converter, this is really easy and a lot faster to work with. Another boon is saving the image on the SD card instead of plugging the converter on the camera. Just keep in mind the maximum limit is 8GB but given I rarely shoot film, a 2GB SD card does the job.The one thing I must warn is to avoid touching the 35mm strips while digitzing the images because a fingerprint will be visible on the digital copy. Keep the converter clean with the brush, follow the instructions, and be familiar with it. This baby really does the job. It's not perfect but I'm happy with my purchase.

What a piece of CRAP !!!
Total waste of money! I wanted a moderately priced scanner to scan lots of old family slides. I thought this one looked pretty ideal. I admit---it sat unopened for over a year and a half (I got busy) and I took it out today to test some slide scanning. I scanned my first 3 slides and then the screen went to a sepia look and won't scan regularly any more. I am so disappointed. Good in theory but appears to be a total piece of crap.

ION FILM 2 SD 35mm Film and Slide Scanner
I had read the product reviews on the web before I ordered this item, and it seemed that some users were disappointed. However, the price was so reasonable (bargain from Amazon: $30 total), I thought it worth a try. I bought a larger SD card that cost almost as much as the ION FILM2SD scanner! When I received the ION FILM2SD 35mm Film and Slide Scanner, it took about 2 minutes to assemble and I was ready to go, but the exact means of scanning onto the SD card and then connecting to my iMac by a USB cable was a mystery. It took a couple more minutes with the manual before I started to use it, and the manual was straightforward and simple; the scanner is extremely easy to use. In just a few minutes of use, I found that:* This is so much faster and easier than scanning in photos using a flatbed scanner - there is no comparison!* If you don't clean off your slides, the quality of the image is "dirty" or "hairy" or whatever the condition of the slide (both sides).* Be certain to insert the slide so that its aspect ratio is aligned with that of the scanner or the image gets clipped.* I don't know how to lock in the claimed 5 Mpixel resolution, because the size of the scans varied no matter what I did.* I didn't find the FLIP and MIRROR buttons of much use, so when I imported the slides to the iMac, I occasionally had to use photoshop to FLIP or MIRROR to get the photo right side up and left side left.* The transfer of the images to the computer using the USB cable turned out much faster than I expected. Not screaming fast, just OK-fast.* On rare occasions, a slide wouldn't feed properly, so I just pulled the feeder and manually extracted it and started over.* The ability to stack a number of 35mm slides in the holder and quickly scan them repetitively was a wonderful feature. In spite of my unfamiliarity with the scanner, in a couple of hours, I had scanned maybe 150 slides, imported them into the computer, Photoshopped them to properly aligned them, and improve the color and light balance of the images. Sometimes I found the slides weren't as clean as I thought and I just Photoshopped the scratches or specks rather than try to find and rescan the 35mm slide. The manual hinted that there was a film holder as well, but mine was not shipped with one. A shame, because I would really have liked to try that.Overall, the ION FILM2SD 35mm Film and Slide Scanner is a fun product that allowed me to digitally remaster some family slides from the 1950's through the 1980's. They were like lost memories that somehow magically reentered your mind in full and vivid color.

Great product..
This slide scanner served my purposes very well. It is very portable, easy to use. I went through 350 slides in no time. I liked putting them on a SD chip and then transfering them to my computer because it could then decide what I wanted to keep and how I wanted to organize them. Also it was great to put the chip in my HDTV and see them blown up. The resolution was terrific for my purposes. I would recommend this scanner highly.

Does the basic job
If you need to scan a lot of slides fast, this will do the job. There are no settings for file manupulation-i.e. lighten up a dark picture or crop anything, but it gets the job done. I like that it goes straight to an SD card so it doesn't tie up your computer. I would not pay full price for a brand new one, but the price was right this 'open box' one.

Worthless. 2 fatal flaws
On first use, the slide stacking holder would jam when trying to move the second slide into the viewer. I tried all 3 settings for slide thickness and nothing fixed this problem. I had to resort to using one slide at a time instead of using the stacking feature. This really slows down the process. The "save" feature would only save about 1 out of 5 slides, then would work for another slide, then not save again. What good is going through this lengthy process if you can't save the digital image anyway. This prodect is a worthless piece of junk. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Unbelievable but TRUE, this is like magic
Not enough stars available for this product. It is so easy to use, and so quick, 2 seconds per slide, just click OK twice and your slides are saved to SD card ( supplied ). Save to PC and WOW that's all there is to it. "simples". You don't even need a PC, just plug in to mains and carry on.

Mid quality scanner
I purchased this scanner because of its stackable slide loader. That was a disappointment. The slides often stuck in the scanner, slowing down the process. The scanning procedure is not intuitive, resulting in missed or duplicate scans. The viewing screen cannot be adjusted, so can only be viewed from a straight on angle. The 5 megapixel scans result in scans that lack clarity. I returned this scanner and purchased a better Ion Omni Scan unit with single slide loading and 10 megapixel scans, and I'm very pleased with it.
